I can't believe this guy is falling so far down the depth chart. I guess that first year with his injury is really taking a toll. He didn't have a bad year last year, and I was really hoping he would step it up this year, which would be his second full year. Looks like Merling/Langford are taking his spot. He was a stud at Texas. Anyone know why he has fallen out of the loop?

To answer your question, he is not better than Merling and Langford..
He is less talented !!
But, he will make this team...

The reason I believe he has fallen, is because so much better talent at the DE position was injected this offseason. Holliday was always ahead of Wright to begin with, but now he has competition from Randy Starks, Phillip Merling and Kendall Langford. Sadly for Wright, those three new additions are better players and in Langford's case, he is already been annointed a starter.

Wright will make the team no doubt, and I think he will be great to have in the rotation at DE, I just don't think he will be able to become a dominate starter at DE in this league. A very good backup who can play in a rotation.

IMO... you can't have enough big men on the DL roster... Wright has proven to be very disruptive when given opportunities... including last season...

Maybe he's not getting the media press... but I'll venture if you ask the OL in camp they'll say the guy plays heavy... and that's a good thing.

At the time we drafted him, he was orignally projected as 1st or 2nd rounder. He fell in the draft because of that shoulder injury he didn't even know he had until the combine. We stole him in what the 5th or 6th. I think he has the misfortune of being on a deep line because I have seen him make plays when he is on the field. He could be a guy that maybe we could trade for a draft pick. Might be the best thing for him.

Wright is by no means a lock to make the team. I hope he does, but anyone that thinks he is a lock is kidding themselves. He has a decent shot, but that's all.

Rod has played better than Starks. Starks and Wilford were a huge waste of money.

I was a big fan of Starks in free agency and I was glad we signed him, but given the emergence of Merling and Langford he's really not needed. Just a really expensive backup.

Rodrique Wright's chances of making the roster increased dramatically when Roth became a linebacker.

I hope we cut Starks.

We actually got him in the 7th. He's a not-bad DE who has good ability and a so-so motor.

aren't they always shuffling fresh guys in and out on d-line. a really good fresh body can be valuable. w/ starks, solai, and merling coming in thats a pretty good 2nd unit.

Its a long season.... having depth on the line is important, at least for this year with rookies in Merling and Langford....everyone hits the wall as a rookie...having Rod Wright is a big help. He has stepped up and played well, certainly stood out at times with the 2nd/3rd string defense late in the first preseason game

correct me is I am wrong but a d-lineman or any lineman with a bad rotator cuff can not be good. I hope his shoulder is better than ever but I am not sure how RC rehabs go. anybody got any insight on this?

Where's hooshoops. He mentioned after watching the game he didn't like Rod Wright's performance. Personally when I watched I thought Rod Wright was doing particularly well. I'd be interested in knowing why he thinks different.

Throw Quentin Moses into this debate as well. He's been a ghost in the preseason so far from what I have seen.
