Does anyone know the status of Rodrique Wright, and does anyone have an idea of whether the plan is to bulk him up? When drafted, he was a little light for NT, and his speed appeared to be his greatest asset. Is he going to compete for NT, or DT in four down lineman situations?

Yeah. Did he participate in the mini camp?

I didn't make it to the mini-camps, and I haven't read / heard much regarding him recently. Once training camp gets underway, I'll keep my eye on him, and let everyone know how he's doing. I too am interested in his progress.....

PHINZ RULE!!!

305 is too light? Don't think so. I am a huge Longhorn fan and this guy would have been a 1st round pick if not for the shoulder injury. I am looking for this guy to be a big part of the rotation if healthy. He did participate in mini camp, so I assume he is back. He and Evans is why I think we don't have to draft a DT in round 1 and should focus on Quinn or Levi Brown.

There wasnt really any minicamp reports, as there wasnt a whole lot of stuff of note done. It's just them putting on pads and doing drills, really, so it's hard to evaluate them. Post-draft camps we'll see alot more.

Rodrique Wright is as of right now Vonnie Holliday's backup at the 1-gap DT position, which seemingly fits him best. Part of the reason why he seemed less effective at the end of his career than the beginning of his career is the Texans changed defensive schemes, and he went from a 1-gap guy to a 2-gap guy. Wright did not perform as well, as he's always been best shooting gaps and penetrating.

The guy was a stud at TX. If healthy he should see similar time to what Roth played in 06'.

He'll be in the future what Holliday is now. All we need to do is draft a DE/OLB hyrbid and we'll have a D-Line for years and years to come.

What's the difference b/w 1-gap/2-gap? I hear it on NFLN all of the time, but do not know the difference.

Sometimes a nose tackle is called a two-gap tackle since they are responsible for the gaps on both sides of center if they play head-up on the center. Otherwise it refers to how many gaps a guy can be responsible for. A big defensive tackle who can occupy two blockers is usually called a massive two gap tackle.

I get the feeling eventually we will be playing the 3-4 defense full time, I think we now have our starters for that system, just not enough depth behind them. I figure Rod Wright will have to make a name for himself as a DE for us in the 3-4.

If Jarvis Moss slides to the #40 he would be perfect. AGB imay be the answer to backing up JT, and he is a dynamite special teamer. Otherwise, Jacob Ford looks good in the 6th.

:yeahthat:

Just say no to drafting a DT.

I agree ! We shouldn't draft anyone for the front 7 .. That is the only area of the team that doesn't have needs (aside from Running back if Ricky is cleared) ..

We need to draft for all the other numerous holes on the team.
