Ron Jaworski: Matt Moore is a rock solid NFL starter

you get it but obviously the person who I quoted didn't.

sigh*

yes i got it. can be and is are two different things.
what you don't get is that Jaws use of can be in the context of the rest of his segment didn't really sway his stance on Matt Moore.

He loved him since he was at Oregon State... he was top 5 against the blitz pickup and mentioned him with the likes of the greatest quarterbacks in the game.
I don't think Matt Moore should be ranked much higher than where he was, but how on earth do you rate him as the 6th worst starter in the NFL and talk him up like that? it was just funny to listen to.

funny you should mention that: coincidentally this came off the "production line" earlier this week:

I could have easily seen the same thread about Chad Henne last year...

Rock solid backup.

That entire segment with Jaworski was a complete joke.

Jaws doesn't have a great track record evaluating QBs and obviously Miami doesn't agree or they wouldn't have used a top 10 pick on a QB plus signed a FA.

Just like Jaws said John Beck was going to be a rock solid starter.

Jaws is a definitely a brilliant football mind, but this kind of stuff is a crap shoot, Nubs.

No one knows why some fail and some strive.... Even the most knowledgeable people...

Or my favorite, "this Palco is unbelievable" very early in the game when KC played NE on MNF football last year. I think palco completed a pass to earn that praise.

Allen Iverson has never seen a shot he doesn't like.

Ron Jaworski has never seen a quarterback he doesn't like.

And that right there is the problem. You don't know how much you can trust what he says. He's one of those guys that has the eternal optimistic view, yet hedges as easily as he breathes. Notice he said Moore "can be" a rock solid starter. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, but also nothing lost. He can't be called out when Moore fails because he was right, Matt Moore COULD be a rock solid starter, he just didn't "reach out and grab it for himself" or whatever parlance you want to say. He doesn't go on record saying this guy IS this, or WILL BE that, so he doesn't have a record of misses and hits to go off.

Personally I think one aspect that people ignore a little conveniently about Matt Moore is the fumbles. Fact of the matter is Moore is a small guy, thin, dominable in the pocket. He got his big chance to be a starter, and he fumbled the ball 14 times, losing 6 of those fumbles. How great does your passer rating look when you threw 16 touchdowns and turned the ball over 16 times? The answer is: not as good as if you only count 9 of those turnovers because they were interceptions.

As an offensive player he gained 2,343 net yards on 405 plays, about 225 of which were successful (gained yardage). He got 18 touchdowns and turned the ball over 16 times. That's a 70.8 rating.

The other side to that coin is in his 12 starts with Carolina, a team that ranged from gawdawful to mediocre he had 8 fumbles (4 of them recovered) -before getting the opportunity to line up behind the likes of Carey and of course Columbo... not to mention 60% of a healthy Jake.

I don't share the same optimism as Jaws. It would be nice to come into a new season with a QB that I have confidence in as the starter. It seems the fins have been on a QB treadmill since marino. Let's just hope hope Tannehill's skill set equates to a solid starter at QB. I'd even be happy if he was on par with Flacco!

What more than win 6 out of 9 NFL games does Moore have to to to prove he's an NFL starter?
