am i the only one who thinks that we should extend there contracts before the season i mean if it was not for those two we would not have had the season we had and won the division and made the playoffs i think they deserve it henne can seat another two years i belive....:rimshot:

I wouldnt mind extending Ronnie's already but I would wait on Chad's. He came into last year signing a two year contract with the idea of mentoring in mind (at least i think). Now I know he had a great year last year and IF he has a great year again I would say go for it in giving Chad an extension. But if not we have two QB's waiting in the folds, one whom I really want to see in action to see what he can do with an entire game and not just a few plays at the end of a game. Which he did great with.

I'd extend Ronnie if it's reasonable. Pennington I'd wait to see if Henne can push him to backup or out this year.

I wouldnt extend either of thier contracts at this point. There is no reason to.
Now if Pennington's agent come to us and gives us a sweetheart deal take it.
No sense in locking him up long term to starter's money when Henne may be ready. Now if he is willing to give us a reasonable deal and to possible be Henne's backup then lock him up. It would not be smart to sign him long tem to big money with his injury history.

As for Ronnie Brown , there is no reason at all to sign him long term or even sign him at this point since we can franchise him at the end of the year anyway. With Ronnie and his contract history I doubt we are going to get any kind of discount and IM sure he wants to make what he makes already if not more and thats already top 5 money. I believe we should take a wait and see approach and if Brown has a stellar year reward him for it although I dont want to give him more than a 3 year contract which Im sure he will be opposed to. Way too much risk right now to sign him long term. He is already 27 years old and runningbacks usually dont have a long shelf life and he has had a fairly major injury just a season ago. Nothing would be worse than investing big money and having him reinjure himself. This is not a case like some players like Barber and Drew where they were not making much money and they deserved to be rewarded for thier performance. Brown has been among the highest paid backs since he was drafted so he has been rewarded more than enough for his performance. we have nothing to lose by waiting until the end of the season to look at Brown;s contract.

I completely agree. I'm just more than a little bit concerned about losing one or both of these guys next year. I honestly don't think we have a viable option to replace Ronnie if he leaves next year. I don't think Ricky plays beyond this season and I don't know if Cobbs is ready to be a featured back. Pennington has Henne and White waiting in the wings. So if this transition is conducted properly, him leaving would be a lot less painful. That is assuming either Henne or White is ready to assume the mantle.

Henne with Ricky, Cobbs & Polite is good for 2010. If Ronnie wants top 5 money for 5 years he can forget it. Spend it on the lines.

I wouldn't do anything with Ronnies contract. If there is no new CBA, Ronnie will be a RFA at the end of the season. I would wait and see if someone will cough up a #1 for him. If there is a new CBA and ronnie has a spectacular year, I would offer him no more than a 4 yr deal. After 30 w/ a reconstructed knee, he is bound to go downhill and probably pretty fast.

As for Pennington, I am a little torn. Guess it would all depend on the money. With a 1 or 2 yr extension, If henne was deemed ready to take over, it would give us the opportunity to trade him if he didn't want to stay on as a backup. Then again, waiting until the end of the season when he will be a FA could be risky if Henne is not rdy.

Well really we are in no danger of losing Brown because we can franchise him.
So we risk nothng by waiting on him.

I agree signing Ronnie right now is not an issue. IMO if Ronnie has a great year and we need to franchise tag him its not that big an issue since he will be an All-Pro back and paying top dollar for him would be expected.

As for Penny, that is a more delicate issue. If Penny has a year like last year someone is going to offer him big money. No matter how nice a guy Penny is, if he gets a 3-5 year deal making starter money somewhere, like Minny, Tampa or Jax, he is going to take it. Especially Tampa or Jax. Waiting to long to resign him may be a mistake. On the other hand if you think you have the next franchise QB in waiting then its not a big deal. But IMO, if Henne was the next Marino why the heck do you draft White, if you have a Marino (henne) or a Brady, you don't worry about running the wildcat, aka Manning or Brady now, I am not sold on Henne yet,....time will tell.

we need to extend ROnnie's but i think we will be alright if we dont extend Chad Penningtons

im not too worried about the ronnie situation. IMO we can let him go after this season. he's not worth top dollar at the beginning of his decline.

plus, the 2010 draft has alot of promising talented.

my eyes are on 3 rbs with two of them possibly bypassing their senior year in college for the nfl

Noel Devine, JR, West Virginia. probably the fastest RB if not player of the 2010 draft.

Chris Brown, Sr, Oklahoma. had a great junior year with 1200+ yards and 20 tds

Armando Allen, JR, Notre Dame. He's from right here in our own backyard, "Mando" was a friend of mine back from my days at H.M.L.. He was ranked in top 5 Dade and Broward RBs going into his senior year and highly recruited by UF before a knee injury in an exhibition game. Also a track star in high school, mando has great hands and speed. IMO, he can be a special teams and backfield threat alongside Cobbs if Ronnie was to leave
