Well as a member of this board for several years now I will first say that someone will probably light this post up for some sort of negativity but but here goes.

My favorite player Ronnie Brown, out with injury has been waiting on a contract extension for a while. Although Ricky will do a good job replacing him, say for some reason Ricky doesn't and then the Miami FO realizes that the team really needs Ronnie around for 4-5 more years, it might get him a contract extension in the offseason sooner rather than later.

Here goes....thoughts??

i feel it is very vital to resign ronnie brown. i am as big of a ricky fan as anybody, and think hes a really good back, but hes not going to be here for so much longer as he has stated. the best we can hope he stays for is another 2 years after this. ronnie is only 26 yrs old i believe, and he has shown how brilliant he can be sometimes. he also stated he would want to stay in miami, so hopefully our FO will get the job done and we can have the great tandom of ricky and ronnie for the next few years together.

If things go poorly with Ronnie out...I think it might get them to draft a Rb a little higher next yr, not sign him to an extension.

I have nothing against Ronnie, but he has only played 16 games once, he'll be 28 next yr? It would be insane to give a 28 yr old RB who has already had a major knee surgery a contract any longer than 3 yrs IMO....flame away.

I would rather hold out and let him be an RFA and see if Bele or someone is crazy enough to give up a #1.

I'm not sure if the injury helps his chances, but he's definately the best player on our offense, not resigning him just puts us in a bigger hole than the one we are currently at, we still need to look into signing a WR or two, add more pieces to our defense, maybe another tight end, we can't cut one of the top RBs in the NFL and continue to grow as a team.

and on the flipside, if miami is able to run down carolina's throat without ronnie, it wont help with an extension.

If one presumes that RB doesn't come back this year, or at least not 100% healthy, then the FO might low-ball him on a multi-year deal to see if he takes it. If he does, they saved some bucks, and if he doesn't come back to the level they expected next year, then they'd cut him that offseason and he'd be a free agent.

On the other hand, Ronnie's agent might want a one year "prove it" contract that his injuries are a thing of the past rather than take a low-ball offer. Nice new signing bonus for Ronnie and a commission to the agent, plus it's only one year. If Ronnie's performing well, the Fins have that season to work out a mega-contract before he hits the market. But who knows what the collective bargaining situation will be like by then...

...too many ifs right now to say for sure. I can see the team wanting to lock him up, but I can also see them wondering (because of his health) what kind of player they're in fact locking up.

This has been my biggest fear since the season started. I hope the front office realizes he's easily our best player and the face of the franchise. We need to resign him to a big contract.

I don't think it really matter how Ricky does. Ricky is gone after the 2010 season. With our current depth at running back that would leave us with Patrick Cobbs, Kory Sheets, Ricky Williams, and Lex Hilliard if we weren't to resign Ronnie. I think this one is a no brainer.

Ask the Redskins if they'd like any of Deion Sanders $8mil signing bonus back. :)

Any team, even when they love a player, has to look out for the financial side of things, too. If Ronnie's back to his old self before the end of the year, I could see the big contract coming. Otherwise, things get dicey. Cobbs getting injured late into the year strengthens Ronnie's position, but since injuries are a factor for both it may be a wash.

i am a huge ronnie fan.i agree with you on the 3 years.it is very fair to the team.but pay him well for those 3.is it fair to ronnie?i dont know. i am dolphin fan first.the team comes first.i have said it from day one.if not here its the patriots, and that would be hard to take.

I think the league as a whole is going to start shying away from big contracts for running backs. Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, McGahee, Willie Parker.....they're all very replaceable with guys making a tenth their salary.

but none of them do what ronnie does.

ronnie is the offense until the dolphins get recievers who can catch & hold on to the ball

Run for multiple 1000 yard seasons???

If you're referring the the WC, look around college footbal, there are plenty of teams using their RB as the trigger man. The reason Ronnie does it better than anyone else is becase the dolphins paractice it like nobody else.
