MTV Generation is a term used to describe the young demographic, those born in the era of MTV and similar programming. This generation is unique in that they were exposed to an entirely different form of stimulation than those who preceded them. MTV is credited with inventing a unique visual format and style. Originating with early music videos, meant to advertise a musical product, directors/editors/producers pressed to fit in a wide variety of visual stimiluli in a compact timespan, a) due to time constraints and b) to pique and maintain the attention of the audience. This format later seeped into other more traditional forms of programming on the network and eventually into the wide spectrum of television programming and other media, everything from sitcoms, to films, to video games, etc. This style employs many fast cuts and quick edits, never focussing on one scene or visual for more than a few seconds.. Enough to give an old man a seizure...
You may ask, "what in the heck does this have to do with Ronnie Brown?".. Well, Let me explain. This visual format has conditioned its viewers to expect instant visual gratification. It starts there, but that also works into all other facets of life.. instant VISUAL gratification isnt enough, we expect to be stimulated, NOW, immediately, We dont have TIME to stand around and WAIT for something to develop. We need constant bombardment of stimuli. Instant Gratification is the mantra of this generation. Now, just take a look at this forum, 2 games, results arent satisfactory, CUT HIM. HE SUCKS, this is that mentality, applied to something which does not neccesarily function in the same manner.. Patience is no longer a virtue, its a burden.Patience is, well, boring to this generation. I am part of this generation and I too am conditioned for instant gratification, but, unlike some of my ilk, I understand that life doesnt occur in fast cuts and quick edits.. Its a gradual process, and within any process, stages of development occur.. You cant jump from A to C (without acknowledging B) in 2 seconds, just like you cannot formulate a valid conclusion on Ronnie Brown in 2 games...
NOTE: There have been studies done on fast cut visual styles, video games, and other modern media formats and their impact on their audience, some evidence supports the notion that excessive exposure to this correlates with ADD and ADHD..
