Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown seemed both excited and relieved when learning of Trent Green finally being traded to the Dolphins for a conditional fifth-round pick Tuesday. He was interviewed on Sirius Satellite Radio.
On the trade being done: “I think I’m excited about if from the fact that it’s been up in the air for us to kind of know what’s going on as far as that situation, I think the guys will kind of let their hair down and just kind of relax now that the situation has come through. It’s unfortunate the way things turned out for Daunte [Culpepper]. But I’m just saying in this situation that he was injured and stuff like that and everything didn’t work out.â€Â
On whether this allows the Dolphins to now know who their leader is going to be this year and clear up confusion in the locker room: “I think so. Now that we kind of know what’s going as far as who’s going to be here … Granted, [Green has to pass] his physical and everything. From that [earlier] standpoint, it’s good for our team to know what’s going on and people can go ahead and relax and worry about the things we have to do as individuals to make our team better.â€Â
On whether Daunte got a fair shot in South Florida: “It’s hard to say. I know he was never in a situation where he felt real good. His knee unfortunately didn’t heal the way I guess everyone wanted it to. I learned a lot just being around him and knowing the kind of competitor he is and wanting to be out there and growing up playing football and doing what you love, it’s hard to sit out when the guys you work out with and sweat so much with to try and get out there and be a help to your team, that was one of the things that kind of affected him as an individual.â€Â
On whether he thinks Culpepper can play in 2007: "It’s hard to say. We haven’t really been through any contact stuff. He’s doing all the drills a lot better than he did this time last year. But at the same time, it’s kind of different when you’re out there on a game field and everyone is full speed and you’re running around and have to do the things that you haven’t been doing for a while. But he looks real healthy. He’s running around and is excited. He did everything in a professional way as fr as working out and showing up.â€Â
