Ronnie Brown Slow?

Not to mention the 10 yd loss on that pathetic toss by Gus. If Ronnie had jumped on that ball, the tide of the game could have taken a serious change for the worse. He looked really good in blitz pick-ups and seemed to be more comfortable running as the game went on. He also made that great catch to extend the drive that ended in the game's 1st td.

You won't find many rookies that has the presence to pick up the blitz like Ronnie.

Just wait till they work him more into the passing game. He's the type of back that can run downfield routes, a la Marshall Faulk.

Ronnie did not look good today. minor and Morris had holes to run through. Ronnie was dancing all afternoon in the backfield instead of hitting th ehole. It is too early to judge him, he will learn to hit the hole, and then we can judge him. But to say he looked good is wrong, he didnt.

I think he played ok. But I would have to disagree with you on the fact that he will learn to hit the hole. Running backs are told time and time again from little leauge football all the way up to the pro's that you are supposed to hit the holes, and not dance around in the back field, therefore I believe that the reason that he was dancing was becasue there were no holes to hit. Just my opinion

I was VERY impressed by how he played today. You don't expect a rook to pick up the blitz like that. It's just not supposed to happen.

That one catch has me just drooling to see what he can do in the passing game.

Faulk is a good comparison, although they do have different running styles. They both do well running/catching/blocking. If Ronnie is half as successful as Faulk was in his prime, I think we'll all be quite happy with him.

My gosh! It's so obvious that most of you have never played football before.

Miami's rushing struggles have a lot more to do with going against an 8 man front than it has to do with either Ronnie Brown or the OL at this point. Today, the Dolphins made the Broncos pay for stacking the line against the run.

You're right about that. Denver was just daring Miami to throw it. I counted 9 men in the box on 3 occasions and 8 several more times. I don't blame them for doing it either. Frerotte had yet to show he could do what he did today. They picked their poison and died.

As for Ronny, I didn't look at his yards to form my opinion. I noted on several occasions how he finished runs very well, picking up an additional 2 to 3 yards after contact. I noticed how he spun out of danger to open space, which by the way is a tell tale sign of "vision", so drop it already. I noticed how he made a brilliant catch on a critical 3rd down to pick up the first. I noticed how he made a great pickup on a CP blitz by Baily to secure more time for Frerotte to complete another critical 3rd down. I noticed how he bounced an inside play outside and reached the corner against a set of really fast linebackers.

No, he doesn't have the same burst as Ricky, but very very few do. That's why he's Ricky and that's why Saban made a wise move to lure him back. But ask youself this, does Ricky (or Carnell Williams) have the same ability to make spectacular catches? Can they block as well? Can they pick up the short yards and finish runs as well (assuming Ricky isn't back to normal playing weight)? What's happening here is everyone is looking for a reason to second guess Saban picking RB over CW, and it will happen for a long time. But think about it, Saban had faced both backs over a four year period while they were in the SEC together, had the choice of both, and picked RB. With it being the second overall, I'm certain Mr. Anal Retentive put alot of thought into that one and went with his gut. He knew CW was probably the best pure runner. But there had to be something about RB that he just couldn't pass on. What is it? In my opinion it came down to better mental capacity, better maturity, better blocking, better pass catching and better team player all wrapped up in someone with nearly as good running instincts. It's called getting more bang for your buck, and Saban has shown us many times that he's a good shopper of talent.

The fact of the matter is that there were about 4 plays today that Ronnie's poor vision were readily apparent (i.e. he HAD decent blocking/cutback lanes). A back with good vision would have had himself another 25 yards on said plays at least.

Oh really? I'm sure the back with the best vision in the game leaves three or four plays per game that he wished he had back. I get a view that no one on TV will ever get, and the cutback lanes were there, but at the LOS there were no holes to get thru to get to them.....

He got hit 15 times today the second he took the handoff!! Thats at least 30 negative yards.
