A couple of things, fellas and ladies: Ronnie Brown can pass the ball. And he's getting more proficient at it because he's been doing it more in practice.

I've been told the Dolphins have been working more with Brown throwing out of the Wildcat formation this week. In fact, when the team is warming up in individual drills, Brown takes some repetitions with the other quarterbacks.

Oh now this is gonna be interesting and exciting. So how are they gonna stop it once Brown starts passing the ball like Davie Lee use to do with Mcfadden in Arkansas.

I know alot of you dont like, but the Wildcat is creat headaches for defenses.

On a side note, Sapp is a ****ing idiot.

I speak from a place of ignorance (I was often picked last at sports... I can throw a football decently though an that's about it).

We keep talking about how defenses have to waste time prepping for the Single wing "wildcat" offense, but it also seems we are spending valuable practice time teaching our starting RB how to throw. Maybe ROnnie is enough of a beast that he can afford to spend extra time on this, and maybe this is all smoke and mirrors anyway (just like Ricky saying he didn't want to throw the ball, and lo and behold he is called upon to pass), but anyone with some insight want to clarify this for me?

Well, In Arkansa they use to have Mcfadden fling the ball every once in a while. I think we saw this in the NE game when Ronnie threw a pass against the Patriots. The Runningback has to be able to throw the ball in the formation cause if not they always know you are gonna run. So dont be surprise if you see a pass or two Sunday just to throw the defense off.

The Dolphins are not spending valuable time on teaching Ronnie. They are simply including in practice when they are lined up in the Wildcat and Ronnie is practicing some with the QBs. Thats all

I wonder if Ronnie can throw it at all, for real. His TD pass to Fasano was fun and all, but it was a lob to a wide open tight end. If he can throw a deep ball a la Antwaan Randle El, it just adds another dimension to the Wildcat that the defense has to account for.

Ronnie brown could hit a totally wide open ted ginn on a medium pass, maybe a deep one but thats about it. If the receiver only has a step on the DB, that probably wouldnt be enough for brown. I'm saying i wouldnt want this guy throwing to anyone that isnt 100% absolutely positively wide the f*** open.

From what basically every player (including ronnie) said after the patriots game was that they were surprised ronnie could throw that well at all. even considering that fasano was totally wide open. if he didint get hit in stride that may have not been a touch down is basically what i'm trying to say and thats not what its gonna look like everytime. He made a pass alot of QB's wouldnt even try. Throwing on the run across your body, especially against the NE defense....Thats playing with fire.

The Charger's defensive gameplan for the wildcat was 2 things:

1) Maintain assignments. Reason why the patriots looked so bad.

2) Try and get Ronnie Brown to throw the ball. Its public knowledge that he's not a passer. I think Anthony Fasano said something about ronnie throwing dead ducks in practice. Ronnie laughed about it too. So did Sparano. (But then again, these comments were made over a few weeks ago. Maybe he's made tremendous strides, who knows)

Chargers had the right idea. It sounds easier than it is though. I dont expect the houston defense to be anywhere nearly as proficient as far as limiting that particular formation, especially with the multitudes of shifts that may or may not be unveiled.

But then again, i'm inclined to say that based on how his deep ball looks (i've never seen it) it may very well work out. I could seriously see ginn burning DB's on release routes and ESPECIALLY pennington sneaking wide open cause well no one takes him seriously at WR.

I'm a happy camper knowing that even if we never threw with ronnie out of that formation, its still kickass. Just based on our personel, we have all the pieces you could want. Super fast receiver, 1 superstar running back that is improving every week, 1 former superstar but still exceptionally talented running back, a young but solid and mobile o-line, 1 athletic quarterback.
But the beauty of the whole thing is that the direct snap gives the running back a better matchup. pennington is essentially not worthless in this formation, because he is taking up a man on his side of the field as a blocker. its 11 on 11 and that is an automatic favor to the dolphins. On top of that the defense will still be on its heels because they havta respect williams darting full speed (unless its a busted play like that wildcat touchdown ronnie had when samson satele was slow to hike the ball and williams had already passed the point of exchange). The fact that he can kinda throw is icing to the cake. The fact that he has incredible VISION is what plays a big role in our success with it.

But the most important thing:

We worked on this in training camp. Its not going to burden us at all during the week the way its going to burden other teams that are going to face us.

Good points. One thing that is interesting to note is that against the Chargers, Antonio Cromartie, probably the most athletic DB and arguably the most athletic player in the entire NFL, was lined up on Chad Pennington, arguably the least athletic. Every single facet of the formation has to be accounted for.

Precisely. Thats what people are slowly starting to realize. This formation is a work of genius and i wouldnt even think about running it if we didint have the personnel we have. Granted its fragile, very very fragile.

"But if done right, no can defend" - Mr. Myagi on the infamous "Crane Technique" and the "Wildcat Formation."

Damn i think i'm gonna make that my signature quote.

Another thing that few have pointed out is how we have 3 RBs in the technique. I noticed in the SD game and boy can little Parick Cobbs lay a block. Also notice in my Sig what a good blocker Cramer The picks up a Corner a drive him back big time.

Well he knows how to run so he can spare the time

Seriously I dont see how they are wasting time by doing this. You have to understand that the Wildcat is part of our Offense, it not like we have two offense formations. In fact I was reading an article that in 2006 the Panthers used the formation. If true that means Dan Henning was their offensive coordinator.

its easy to throw just hit the x button and hold it down.

I don't want too see Ronnie throwing this week. I would like too see the phins try running it down the Texans throat. Lets save the good stuff for better teams.
