I was thinking about this Walter Jones against Joey Porter matchup and how all the experts say that nobody would put a back on Porter and additionally that nobody has a tackle that can contain him.

Then it hit me. All those venemous arguments about not judging the worth of a running back on his secondary responsibilities came back to the surface.

If we were playing the Steelers we would do so with what I would dare to call the ONLY back in the league that would be able to protect our quarterback from Joey Porter, or any blitz they could send us.

So there! The biggest matchup discussion in the SUPERBOWL...the biggest problem for AFC offensive systems throughout the playoffs would be easlily dealt with by our franchise running back and his irrelevant secondary skill set.

Fully agree.

Ronnie is one of if not the best feature back blocker in the league.

Not sure if he would stop Porter 100% of the time but would do better than most backs.

steven jackson is a hell of a blocker ronnie is just good all around not the best all around

Stephen Jackson is good but not as good as Michael Pittman who is not nearly as good as Ronnie. Don't forget, Ronnie dropped a blitzing Sam Adams an inch in front of Gus' face.

Obviously this is my opinion. I didn't get an online chat going with Steve, Mike and Ron to discuss this.

Funny that you mentioned that because they showed a clip this morning on ESPN featuring him during a play where he needed to block. It was a playaction pass and a linebacker was comming from the left side. Instead of abandoning the playaction like he should have and immediately going to block, he ran the playcation, got caught out of position, ran past Bulger, and actually blocked the wrong guy, a guy that was already being covered by the fuulback. Bulger got sacked, play over. I'm not saying that one play defines his entire ability to block, just something interesting I saw. I think Ronnie is top 3 in blocking RB's, maybe #1.

Without football, Porter would be in prison. If Miami plays the Steelers, they should chop block Porter and double team him all day. I'm sure he would throw punches after the first block and get thrown out. If we are lucky, he will get thrown out of the Super Bowl tonight.

we play the steelers at pittsburgh first game of the year next year

i hope they win the ship, and they we bust em up good the opener next year

Porter is not even the best linebacker on his team. He is the second most overrated person on the Steelers after #36

Wow calling Porter overrated is one thing, but Polamalu? That guy is EVERYWHERE. He does everything on the field. Comes up to stuff the run, blitzes extremely well, and plays great pas coverage. Offenses have to paln around him and Porter.
