I see often people critizing Brown, asking if he's worth the number 2 pick.. is he HOF material.. etc... But that's unfair to judge. the question is simply was he the best pick for us at #2 in that years draft. I think the answer is yes... and it's not even close. 2005 might very well have been the worst draft in history... look at the top 10! I'll take Brown easily

2005 - Round 1
Sel # Player Position School Team
1Alex Smith QB Utah San Francisco 49ers
2Ronnie Brown RB Auburn Miami Dolphins
3Braylon Edwards WR Michigan Cleveland Browns
4Cedric Benson RB Texas Chicago Bears
5Cadillac Williams RB Auburn Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6Pacman Jones CB West Virginia Tennessee Titans
7Troy Williamson WR South Carolina Minnesota Vikings
8Antrel Rolle DB Miami (Fla.) Arizona Cardinals
9Carlos Rogers DB Auburn Washington Redskins
10Mike Williams WR USC Detroit Lions

Sure Braylon and even Rolle have become productive players in this league but are either of them HOF? either of them worthy of number 2?

Just a thought...

I can't say I disagree with ya... But then, I'm the 1st to reply. I'm sure there'll be plenty of people lining up after me to flame you and your thoughts, as is par for the course on this site.

Im sorry as much as I love Ronnie, Brylon Edwards or Aaron Rodgers would have been better picks. Look at what both those players have done for their teams. Would could have easily picked Barber or Gore in the late rounds.

Aaron will cost Nolan his job and Brylon is a true number one Reciever. Gore or Barber could have been added much later.

Rodgers has two games under his belt against Minnesota (0-2) and Detroit (0-2). He surely looked good but it's only two games.

Edwards has yet to show consistency. As has Ronnie Brown. He showed flashes but so has Ronnie Brown. Edwards had a nice 2007 campaign but what if he injured his knee mid-season a la Ronnie Brown?

I would pick Ronnie Brown again - even in hindsight.

He was at the time, and i think he is now. Why does everyone forget what he did last year? He led the league in total yards and was third in rushing. Thats with a bad offensive line. Yea he got injured but it happens. When hes healthy and on, hes a top 5 back IMO. Not just running, but receiving as well.

If Ronnie was running behind a good QB then he would be the best person on that list. It would be stupid to get Brylon when we never had a QB and Aaron rogers would have never been good for us because he wouldnt have had Brett Farve to learn from and would have been pushed into the starting roll immediately. Ronnie was the best pick easily!

In retrospect you cannot say that Ronnie was the best pick since Frank Gore and Marion Barber seem to be superior runningbacks.

Rodgers would of been a bust anywhere else, Farve humbled his ****iness and leveled him out.He would of been another Lienart, thinking hes the hot**** and get slapped in the NFL. Edwards is O.K. I wouldnt say hes great but I wouldnt say Brown is superior to him either. I would say neck n neck. As far as Gore and Barber goes, Gore gets lucky, hes got speed and 49ers dont really got a passing game so they been pounding that run since Gore got there. Barber, well who isnt a good running back with Dallas's O line seriously. Rookie Felix Jones looks like a Barry Sanders behind that line lol. Julius Jones is now a nobody cause hes no longer with the Cowboys. Barber just gets good blocks and him being hard to tackle gives him that little extra to make him great. But if he werent in Dallas it would be a different story. I'd say I would still pick Brown, even last year with zero line support hell zero anything because the Dolphins SUCKED bad last year, he still managed to get 100 yards a game and very well on his way to a rushing title before he got hurt. Brown has made something out of nothing, that warrants my #2 pick. GO RONNIE BROWN!

In terms of production Ronnie hasn't been worth it because of his injuries. But, if we're talking about whether he was talented enough to be taken #2 overall I would say definitely. This was not a bad choice. You can't really predict injuries in the NFL.

Everybody got lucky except Ronnie lol. U do realize Ronnie got a 100 a game for a small part of a season, Gore has done that over a full season.

I think it's comical when someone thinks a mid round player should have been selected 2nd overall because he's now proven in his 3rd/4th year to be good.

We took the best player and it happened to fit a need aswell, we already had a younger C.Chambers, W.Welker and Booker so Edwards seemed to be more of a luxury pick that we couldn't afford.

Why didn't we select Brady in his draft year in the first round, hindsight is the idiots guide to supporting an arguement thats not there. If the draft is so easy to figure out why has nobody ever done it, there's been some great drafts for some teams but when you find HOF's in the mid to late rounds it's more horse**** luck then it is anything else. At those stages of the draft your looking for guys that can play and compete for starting positions in camp, nobody is saying before the draft that they'll find their corner stones to the franchise there.

I never said we should have taken Gore at number 2 I was just disputing that Gore somehow was lucky. I was all for trading our pick or taking Braylon Edwards whom is definately the better player at this point. I said from the beginning that Brown was not worth the second pick in the draft but from that list almost nobody was. I never believe in taking a player that high that did so little in college. We were enamoured with his combine and Im never in favor of drafting a guy just because he is a combine warrior. There were alot of guys I liked better than Brown including Derrick Johnson. I think its absurb that people say well we needed a RB when we also needed a QB and there was a solid prospect available there too.
