Running back Ronnie Brown looks ready to become more involved in the passing offense.

Brown’s pass-catching abilities were on display Monday, when he scored twice on wheel routes, including a diving catch with 6-foot-5 Quentin Moses on him.

Brown has some of the softest hands on the team and is comfortable making difficult catches.

But Brown’s number wasn’t called much in the passing game a season ago as Chad Pennington spread the wealth. Brown had 33 receptions a season ago, an average of just two a game, and averaged just 7.7 yards a catch.
In seven games in 2007 under Cam Cameron’s running-back friendly scheme, Brown had 39 catches and averaged 10 yards a catch.

Tony Sparano likes to share carries among his backs, but a few more catches a game would be a good way to get Brown the touches he needs.

Couldn't agree more... One thing the Cam era proved to us is that RB is a tremendous catcher out of the backfield and can gain some serious ground in open space. We barely setup any screens for him last year which was quite surprising.
But like the author said, there are only so many plays in a game and Pennington loves sharing the wealth.

It's easy to stray away from having Ronnie catching the ball when we had the distracting/attracting wildcat offense last year. Hopefully this year we can get him mo' catches.

that td in the playoffs against baltimore was a thing of beauty, not many recievers could make that catch

And this is why he is a top 10, dare I say top 5, running back in the NFL. Let's see Adrian Peterson make the catches Ronnie makes. I'm not saying Ronnie is a better runner than AP, it just elevates RB's status that much closer to AP in the big picture (running, receiving, blocking, leadership, etc). That is something dlockz will never accept.

I love being called out . ronnie does alot of things well but at the core thing a runningback does he is basically middle of the road statisically. Leadership who realy knows how to quantify that. I mean which runningbacks are good leaders and which are bad. Lets see Ronnie Brown make the runs that Peterson makes just as you talk about the catches. Probably no runningback is a as good a receiver as Reggie Bush but does that make him an top back because he is the best at that. If you want to ask me is Ronnie Brown among the best all around runningbacks when you consider everything, I would rate him top 10 much like Keyshawn was one of the best all around receivers when he was in the league. I dont think overall Brown is the cream of the league either especially with all that Maurice Jones Drew can do. Brown is not the best back in the league at anything but I agree he is a damn good all around back. Hershal Walker was probably the best all around runningback of all time and believe me noone in the league comes close to him in that category but he was rarely thought of as the best runningback in the league.

This is great news. If Sparano would look at the film on how Cam Cameron used him the year he was injured, he would see that he is awesome weapon in the passing game. He had 389 yards receiving in just 7 games that year, averaging 10 ypc. What is special about Brown is that he always makes the first person miss.

I do agree we should use our runningbacks more in the passing game. They all have very good hands.
