I know this is not Dolphins news, but it does affect the Fins indirectly.

The Browns are close to a deal with rookie wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

Edwards, the No. 3 pick in April's draft, has missed the first 12 days of training camp in a contract holdout. His agent, Lamont Smith, is expected to arrive in Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon to resume talks with the team, a person within the league told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The source, who said the sides do not have an agreement yet, wanted to remain unidentified due to the sensitivity of the negotiations.

Smith and the team have been discussing various deals the past few days and have recently focused on a five-year package for Edwards, the type of big-play wide receiver Cleveland has coveted since the Browns came back to the NFL in 1999.
Edwards is one of three top picks not yet signed. Miami has yet to reach a deal with running back Ronnie Brown, the No. 2 overall pick, and Chicago is still trying to sign running back Cedric Benson, the No. 4 pick.
Having Braylon sign will finally give France that cushion he has wanted. I honestly believe once Edwards dots the i's and crosses the t's, the Ronnie deal will go into the speed of light mode. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

I completely agree. for an inexperienced agent, the last thing france wants to do is leave brown with a contract thats not better then edwards'. This is good news IMO, thanks Nub.

See, I would love to buy into this, but I'm just very skeptical.

I think the deal is, the Dolphins don't want to overspend, and France wants too much.

Someone is going to have to give in for this to get done.

Remember, they also said that Alex Smith's deal in San Fran. would springboard Ronnie's deal too.

Don't think I'm being negative. Most of you on here know I am very optimistic about this team and its future.

However, this is just how I see it in this scenario.

Hopefully this ends up being true. The Phins are low balling Brown, IMO, and if Edwards signs, I think the Phins will have to give Ronnie the contract that a 2nd pick in the draft gets.

I think it will be after Edwards signs. Our deal will have to be in between Smith and Edwards.

I get what your saying, and it was also stated that once one of the RB's was signed the other 2 would follow. I think having the 3rd and 1st sign will help Ronnie sign. The contract TO signed is garbage, the contract Ricky signed when he first got in the league was horrible for him, but because Ronnie is a Phin and wants to get a deal in line with what the 2nd pick in the draft gets, it's different to some people.

Disagree. At 19.5 mil in guaranteed money Miami is offering an 8.7% increase over what Gallery got last year. The average national average of a pay increase in today's economy is 2.7%. Miami has a point here in that SF way overpaid Smith to the tune of a 17% pay increase in guaranteed money from last years number 1 pick.

After crunching numbers on what sort of guaranteed money the last 4 years top 5 draft picks have signed for Miami's offer isn't unfair at all. At 19.5 mill in guaranteed cash, Brown needs to get into camp and stop listening to an agent who's clearly trying to make more money for himself.

It's not different. They both knew what was on the table and still signed clearly knowing what they signed was unfair. Andy Reid went so far as to stop TO right before he inked he's deal and stated to him TO once you sign this I don't want to revisit this a year later and TO still inked. TO is an *** bottom line. If he didn't like his deal he shouldn't have signed.

Ricky was screwed from the start because the choice of hiring Master P was clearly a sign he was smoking too much. Never has an agent been taken more advantage of than Master P was in Ricky's original deal in NO.

Actually you're comparing apples and oranges. You're comparing a national average pay increase which includes every profession, but we're talking about specialists here and the pay increase over the past two years for the top 10 picks has been 10-12%. Still, what SF gave Smith was way above the norm. I still see Edwards signing a deal that is 19 million guaranteed. I'm thinking R.Brown and the Fins are going to settle on a little over 20 million guaranteed.

who says that edwards deal will be made PUBLIC?

It usually comes out, you're right though it might not be right away. Even if the deal isn't made public, Benson's deal will give a little more insite into the increase in %s from pick to pick. Either way, I know the agent is a rookie and all, but he does have a set price that he wants for his player. He'll have to come down on that to get R.Brown in camp. Question is, how much?

It won't make a difference what contract Ronnie signs this year. If he has a good year then he'll be like all the players nowadays and demand a new contract for even higher money. See what T.O has done in Philly, or Jevon Walker in cheeseland?

This, like the game last night, is another area where people need to take a chill pill and calm down. It's not a big deal RIGHT NOW, and I have confidence that the deal will go down very soon. Until then, lets cut the doom and gloom "let him sit the year out" junk and focus on the team itself.

Eventually it will be. Caddillac's was said to be private but you can see his contract now. I'm not sure what he was guaranteed though. He's only set to make $230,000 this year in base salary.
