Do you think that Saban picked up Ronnie because he knew how to split time with another RB because Saban already knew he was getting Ricky back?

short answer: NO.

long answer: Brown looked like the best overall RB and can run very well.
i dont think saban would select one player over another at the #2 spot based on R. Williams.

could be possible ricky knew he was coming back in febuary if ricky knew saban knew. saban could have figured ronnie wouldnt mind spliting carries for a couple of years get him in the grove. with saban coaching in the sec for a while he knows ronnie has what it takes to be a franchise back in this leauge if he didnt he would have taken cadillac. mind u ronnie was best player available though some could have said braylon was

Definitely yes. Ricky said at his press conference Monday he told them in February he had made his decision.

No, I don't think that's the REASON he picked RB, BUT, as I've pointed out several times here (including within a day or two following the draft), I think Saban had a pretty good idea RopeWeed was returning based upon his comment made immediately following the selection of Brown.

When he was listing all the things RB is good at, he included "he's shared time in the backfield with another significant player". Now, why would he even mention that within a list of the ways RB fits in to the offense if he didn't have a pretty good indication, or even certainty, that RW was returning?

So, again, I don't think RW was the reason he picked RB, but I think he either knew RW was coming back, or was pretty close to certain that he was.

I dont think Saban honestly knew that Ricky would be back or not, sure Ricky might have talked to him and said he wanted to play again, but how could Nick have trusted anything he said. Best option was to get a RB since we really needed one, and if Ricky came back then great.

Good possibility he knew and made thata decision upon knowing. But also He might have been the best possible selection. I personally would have chosen Cedric Benson. Because I think he has more of a Ricky Williams style. But since Ricky is Back we have to different style backs. That is to our advantage when they are both in the backfield you could see one go to the outside and one up the gut what are you gonna do.

You think Saban believed in Ricky 100%? I don't think Saban is that foolish.

WOW!!! Good post. The NFL's best teams all use the best player available, per their draft board, method including NE and Baltimore winners of 4 of the last 5 SB's. Most rival fans really only look at the team needs method of drafting and consider Ronnie Brown a wasted pick. Best player available is the way to draft and I'm impressed that there is a rival fan who feels the same way. Many people play both sides of the fence. When it's their team they want the BPA but when a rival team does the same it's, OH but they need offensive lineman. It's weird.
