Rookie to Void Final Year

He will never make more money than he got in his rookie contract. He would be crazy to give up the money he got with a number one contract.

It doesn't say anything about him wanting to void it, it says that he is close to voiding it because...
Long only needs to get in 35 percent of the offensive snaps in any of the first five seasons of his contract to void the final season which is valued at $6.750 million.

you guys are missing the point of the article. it is not saying he wants to get out of the final year of his contract. that is the way the contract was written. if he plays a certain percentage of snaps, the final year is voided. not a story here. nothing hear to see. move along people.

It's probably more of just a business isssue more than anything. If he voids the last year of his contract that just means he can get to FA sooner so he can get more money out of teams and or us. The 6 year deal gives us room to spread out his deal but it's also another year on his career so he figures that the younger he is in his prime the better the deal he can get in FA.

This is not news. Jake's contract was always reported as a 5 year deal. According to the linked article, there is a 6th year that is voided if f he participates in 35% of the offensive snaps in any of his first 5 seasons.

So his contract is really a 5 year deal. If he was injured every year or was a bust we would not be paying his 6th year at 6.75 million anyway.

I would hope he is able to play at least 6 games in one of his first 5 seasons. can you say "foregone conclusion"?

I agree with the posts above. This is not Jake voiding the last year of his contract, it is the language in the contract that is voiding it. Jake isn't sitting at home counting down the days until he plays 35% of the snaps and can void the last year. The way the contract was laid out, this void was automatically going to happen. That is why it was reported as a 5 year deal and not a 6 year deal.

The linked article above is just clairfying what we already know. We knew it would get voided if he played a certain amopunt of snaps. What we didn't know is what the percentage was. This article is just updating with the exact percentage.
