How can rookies want money based on where they are selected?Rookies are not selected in order of talent. Many times a player is selected due to an organization's need of a certain position. Also how can different positions be compared? I feel this is not a legitimate reason for more money.

I couldn't agree more. Each rookie should be treated as an individual.

Not only that, what's with the gauraunteed (sp?) $$$ they get???
I think they should all be given the exact same Rookie base salary of say $4 - 500,000/year over 5 years, leaving the incentive based pay to fluctuate from one player to another. This way, if the player turns into a superstar, then great he will make a killing and the team will prosper by having him on the team, but what if for example:

Reggie bush gets injured this season and never really gets to play a down, or has a carreer ending injury in his first game or two. The team is out like $25,000,000 and have absolutely nothing to show for it.

or if the injury isn't carreer ending, but a nagging one that takes the better part of the players first 2 to 3 years, the team is taking an enourmous risk on these rookies, and I for one think it's a stupid system.

I can see your point as this is the case most of the time. However, there are also times where a team will take the "best player" available as far as they are concerned and not necessarily the position they need.

As far as Jason Allen, I definately think that he needs to sign, considering most teams would have taken him in the second round. I do think the Fins may be low balling him, but one way or another he needs to get his butt in camp.

Obviously, you have no idea how a union works.

As funny as it is, the NFLPA is considered a "weak" union.

This is the kind of payoff that comes with labor peace.........The Rookie structure, that is.

I've never been in a union, and, I don't begrudge them doing their deal, but, I can represent myself and, make my own decisions. I feel his agent is probably pulling him the wrong way.

JA feels he is being disrespected, and, perhaps he is. I personally don't think so. I think the young man is makeing a big mistake. I think he is headed right down "Eddie F'ing Moore" street.

I think this is Nick's first bad decison. This young man is not interested in playing football. It's not bad....It is what it is.....He just doesn't care about football or team. I don't think we need him at this point.

You're looking at it completely from the team's perspective and this is a player's league. Sure, Bush could get injured and the team could be out a lot of money, but what about Bush? What if the injury was due to the bad line they assembled to block him? He should have his career ruined and be broke for the rest of his life because of that? Fact is, players take risks, and guaranteed money is used to get players to act more congruently towards taking those risks.

So how do you grade them?

The first/and down is the only way to grade them.

How else do you grade them?

Mel Kiper?

Please.

so i guess ronnie doesnt care about football either?

I see the point from both sides here. It takes a lot of work to become a first rounder and get that money so from that stand point, they deserve it. But I don't like how a guy who has never played a down, is getting more than some of the best, most solid players in the NFL. How much does Zach Thomas make? I would bet that Mario Williams got more than him.
