Usually around this time of year rookies start to hit a wall because of the length of the NFL season. Since I don't get to see many of the games, can anyone comment on how our rookies are looking down the stretch? I know there is a consistent Jake Long progress report, but I was thinking more of players like Langford and Merling. I haven't heard much about them since early in the year, and not much in the way of stats coming from them. Bess seems to be strong but he hasn't played every down (he will now though!). Any report would be appreciated.

I think Langford and Merling have defitnetly hit the so called rookie wall. These are two players who began the season real well and have taken a hit as of late. Especially Merling.

Actually, we're beyond the time when the rookie wall usually hits. It's usually around game #8, which is really game #12 for the young guys (because of the preseason). Merling and Langford both hit the wall quite awhile ago. Merling did lead the linemen with 3 tackles this week. Maybe they will get their second wind soon.

Is it expected for them to hit it? And did Adrian Peterson get slowed by it? Sorry just never heard of this before

The Palm Beach Post did a story last month on Phillip Merling and him hitting the rookie wall.

Merling, 23, said he’s beginning to feel the demands of the NFL season.

“I can tell my legs are a little tighter,” he said. “I’m a little stiffer waking up and coming in.”

It is not expected of any rookie to hit the "rookie wall" but many are not surprised when they do. Offensive rookies can usually avoid the wall by either sharing duties or by having their workload rationed through out the early part of the season.

Did Peterson hit the rookie wall? Hard to say but he did have over 1,000 yards rushing in the first half of the season and just over 300 yards rushing the second half. I know he missed two games with a knee injury but that is still a significant drop in production.

Watch out for that wall, rookies
