We've got a rookie competing at almost every position on the team:

QB - John Beck, BYU
RB - Lorenzo Booker, FSU
FB - Reagan Mauia, Hawaii
WR - Ted Ginn, Ohio St

Also at WR: David Sutton, Texas-El Paso 6-5 220 40-time: 4.35 (UFA)
Kerry Reed, Michigan St 6-2 200 40-time: 4.49 (UFA)
Michael Malone, Sam Houston St 6-3 208 40-time: 4.56 (try-out)
Gabe Hatchett, Southern Oregon 6-1 205 40-time: 4.64 (UFA)
Charles Futrell, North Carolina Central 6-6 200 40-time: 4.65 (try-out)

OL - Tala Esera OG/OT Hawaii 6-3 312 (UFA)
Julius Wilson OT UAB 6-5 327 (UFA)
Stephen Parker OG Arkansas 6-4 301 (UFA)
Marion Dukes OT Clemson 6-4 320 (UFA)

Center - Samson Satele, Hawaii 6-3 300
Drew Mormino, Central Michigan 6-3 299

DE - Abraham Wright, Colorado 6-2 242 4.90 (4.64 at his Pro Day)
Mkristo Bruce, Washington St 6-6 268 4.93 (UFA)

NT - Paul Soliai, Utah 6-4 344
DL - Marquay Love, Houston 6-1 307 (UFA)
OLB - Edmund Miles OLB Iowa 6-0 228 40-time: 4.64 (UFA)

ILB - Kelvin Smith, Syracuse 6-2 240

CB - Geoff Pope, Howard 6-0 186 40-time: 4.30 (UFA)

S - David Lofton FS Stanford 6-4 212 4.48 (try-out)
Courtney Bryan FS New Mexico St 6-0 202 40-time: 4.62 (UFA)
Chris Vedder SS/FS San Jose St 6-0 205 (UFA)
Tuff Harris CB/S/KR Montana 6-0 195 40-time: 4.53 (UFA)

P - Brandon Fields, Michigan St 6-5 239

It's going to be fun to watch this Pre-Season.

My predictions:

QB - Beck will stick, obviously. When and if he starts remains to be seen.

RB - Booker won't start, but he'll contribute immediately.

NT - Paul Soliai will back up Keith Traylor. But he will probably start by the end of the season. Soliai could be our best 4th round pick ever. Ever.

FB - Reagan Mauia a.k.a. The Juggernaut. Mauia won't start right away. He'll back up Sledge for a year or two. Hopefully he'll contribute on special teams until then.

Soliai and Mauia are both in a great position. They can learn from a seasoned veteran for a year or two. Then step in and play with confidence.

WR - Ginn will contribute right away as a KR. And if we trade Booker, Ginn becomes our #2 receiver.

Also at WR: David Sutton is the fastest of the UFAs we brought in at WR. Will he stick? He's got the speed, but does he have hands?

Kerry Reed might be a better bet than Sutton. He's not as fast, but was more productive in college. And he ain't exactly slow, either.

Does being Moses Malone's son give Michael Malone an edge?

Gabe Hatchett and Charles Futrell probably won't stick unless they stand out on special teams.

I wish: I wish we had signed WR Brandon Myles from West Virginia. I still can't believe nobody drafted him.

OL - Tala Esera and Julius Wilson should both stick and provide solid backup. There's an outside chance one of them could win a starting job at Guard or even RT.

Stephen Parker and Marion Dukes probably won't make the 53-man roster.

Center - Samson Satele will start. Drew Mormino will back him up.

DE - Abraham Wright and Mkristo Bruce should both stick and contribute by rotating in. They will fill in for Kevin Carter and David Bowens.

DL - Marquay Love probably won't stick.

OLB - Edmund Miles should be a standout on special teams. You gotta love the addition of a player like Miles in conjunction with the addition of Ted Ginn. Could be the next Larry Izzo.

ILB - Kelvin Smith. Don't know much about this guy. Of course, it shouldn't be too hard to beat out Spragan or Derrick Pope.

CB - Geoff Pope. He's fast. Could make it on that alone. Is he a football player or a track star? Went to a small school. Might be worth it to give him a year to get used to playing with the big boys. Then see if he can step up.

S - David Lofton. James Lofton's son. Personally, I'm adding him to my roster based on that alone. You can only tell so much from practice. I'd like to see this guy perform in a real game.

Courtney Bryan, Chris Vedder, and Tuff Harris are all longshots. If they stand out on special teams, then they might stick.

P - Brandon Fields will start.

Regardless of what Cam says, the above is evidence this team is rebuilding their roster. Look at all the vets that were cut. 8-8 this year is a good year.

Beat me to it!

I'm pretty sure this is the most rookies we've signed in one offseason in a very long time.

That many rookies make the team with the brutal schedule they have in December. It all adds up to another top 10 pick in next year's draft. 4 -12 to 6 - 10 would be a realistic expectation.

If we trade Marty Booker, Hagan takes his spot over. Chambers still sticks in the slot.

You have anywhere from 14 to 20 rookies making the team.

Yep. These seven are guaranteed to make the team:

1. Ginn
2. Beck
3. Satele
4. Booker
5. Paul Soliai
6. Reagan Mauia
7. Brandon Fields

These seven are likely to make the team:

8. Drew Mormino (draft pick)
9. Kelvin Smith (draft pick)
10. Abraham Wright (draft pick)
11. Tala Esera (UFA but had a 5th round grade)
12. Julius Wilson (UFA but had a 5th round grade)
13. Mkristo Bruce (UFA - notched 11 sacks his senior year in college)
14. Ed Miles (special teams standout)

So 14-15 rookies would be about right. I seriously doubt 20 rookies will make the team.

Of the remaining guys...

1. David Sutton
2. Kerry Reed
3. Moses Malone
4. Gabe Hatchett
5. Charles Futrell
6. Marquay Love
7. Geoff Pope
8. David Lofton
9. Courtney Bryan
10. Chris Vedder
11. Tuff Harris

...I'd say Pope and Lofton have the best shot. Sutton and Reed have an outside chance. At least one of them will make the practice squad.

i think we will keep one of the tall wideouts like Sutton, because at SD Cameron liked to use the taller guys for the jump balls and we dont really have anyone that is real tall

Good post...

I stated in a post before the draft that we need an infusion of at least 12 rookies --- I like your prediction of 15 or more making the team.

We need youth and we need NASTY --- I feel real good we can add both in abundance this year.

As far as production on the field, as long as we turn the corner on the youth/nasty front and prove competitive (i.e., 8-8 or thereabouts with a few positive surprises) I’ll feel good. Of course, there’s always the fantasy possibility of the team making huge strides early and finishing 9-7 or even 10-6. That would be an immense success to me.

WR: David Sutton, Texas-El Paso 6-5 220 40-time: 4.35 (UFA)<-----!!!

Man, this big AND fast??? If this guy can catch, how come no one drafted him??!!! Geez, I hope he sticks!

I absolutely agree, we need a BIG wideout who can run over DBs and catch in traffic. Look what Jacksonville did to use last year with their big WRs.
