If we could go back, would you of rather the Dolphins re-signed Rosenfels and had him be the backup, or would you of rather still traded for Harrington?

Me personally, I think Rosenfels proved himself as a quality backup last season and I would have gone with Rosenfels. Plus, I hate giving up future draft picks, specially for a backup.

if Sage was never a dolphin, you would never have prefered him over Harrington. i think partially the reason you feel that way is because every phin player has a place in the phin fan's heart... although i do agree with keeping a draft pick, and if culpepper stays healthy all season, i will totally agree with your opinion.

Obviously Saban didn't think Rosenfels was good for more then one game if needed, that's why he's a Texan and Harrington is a Fin. I would much rather have Harrington over Sage as a backup QB.

To nobody's surprise, I would have chosen Rosenfels...but I recognize that Saban chose Harrington over Rosenfels and he has a bit more experience than I at making these decisions.

The problem with Sage is that he seemed to develop into a backup that could come into a game rather than one that could start a game. Sage was definitely more comfortable in the shotgun, and he excelled when he didn't have time to think about being nervous. The Texans gave him a pretty big contract ($2 million a year I think) and I think Harrington is getting $3 million this year. Having to give up a draft pick is never good, but when you get a player with plenty of NFL starts, who may just need a new coaching system to improve his game, it's definitely worth the gamble. We knew what we had with Sage, but we don't know what we have with Harrington. Harrington may be the horrible QB that we saw playing on Sundays in Detroit, or he could a player that we can eventually trade for a third or higher. Who knows? Getting a third for a conditional fifth/sixth pick is worth the gamble.

Ironically Miami gave up future draft picks for Rosenfels.

Both of them have sucked at the pro level. One as a starter, the other as a backup. I'd rather have the guy who struggled as a starter than the guy who struggled as a backup.

How about Gus Frerrote? Problem solved. Obviously he can play back-up for you, and he had record of like 9-6 (remember he didn't play the Cleveland game) as a starter for us last year. I know he wanted a chance to "start" but what are the odds of him beating Bulger (even if he is rehabbing from an injury) in St. Louis? If we'd made him feel wanted he'd be here.

I would rather have Harrington, he has more up side to him.

What I hope happens is that Harrington has a great preseason and next year we can trade him for more than we gave up to get him.

Harrington surprisingly. I guess I would rather have a starter as my back-up QB, rather then a back-up as my starter(if you get what I'm saying).

your pretty much right, harrington has never really been a backup so we dont know his potential he can hold as a backup in the NFL, he could be a very succesful #2 qb, much like Detmer was for Philly a few years back, or schaub in atlanta.

This is excactly what I think the problem with Sage was..

If he was thrown into a game because our starter went down, he would come in and play lights out.. But when he had a week to prepare he usually sucked..

Maybe he has problems with the mental aspect of the game and that's why he can play in those sudden back-up situations.. He doesn't have any time to think about it..

After thinking about it, I agree with NATcyn, I would of just rather kept Gus Frerotte. We released him because his cap number got too high, but how much higher was it than Harrington's this season? The guy nearly threw for 3,000 yards last season.

i have a crystal ball that tells me everything about the future and it's telling me that when harrington will be given the chance, he will prove that it was detroit that was the problem and not him. the crystal ball is also telling me that he will have a few chances because dc will struggle a bit because of the knee (not because of his talent or the talent around him). he'll silence doubters and make everyone forget about the other qb's after dan. everyone besides dc that is.

the floodgates are open. bring on the responses:tongue:
