At the same time, there are great players out there that aren't thugs. Also, being a loud mouth does not make you a bad character guy. There are a lot of players out there in the draft and in free agency that talk a lot of trash but aren't bad guys.

I disagree. Every year Bill Parcells coached he brought in a problem child or two ... Bill Bellichik still does it. Every year Parcells talked and talked about how he wanted high character guys, about how he didn't tolerate that sort of junk, etc. etc. etc. People believed him. Although, I have no idea why, because it was just propaganda. He always brought in a couple of guys with bad character. He just didn't build a football team around it.
My take is that the more we say that, the better the unknowing masses will feel about our situation. The better the blogists and sensationalist reporters will feel. But in reality, we aren't shying away from a talent like Taylor Lewan. He isn't the bad seed, drug addicted, serial offender that many of today's athletes are. If Ross gets a chance to sign off on a blue chip Michigan guy who fills a primary position of need, he'll do it in a heartbeat. Then he'll tell the world that he has high character. Privately he'll make sure Lewan knows he cannot have any problems. The main reason Ross isn't talking about it now, is because he doesn't have to ... Lewan is unlikely to make it down to us. If he does though, we'll draft him.
Until then, we'll take Zack Martin and keep acting like we're taking the moral high road. After round 1, don't be surprised if not everyone is squeaky clean.
We're all not whiny cheerio-pissers either.

What does it matter what a senile owner says, what matters is what Hickey does. I think in the main he will pick up high character players, but then again don't most teams, I think this is just a PR move and nothing more.

We have talked up character for years and still get our share of good and bad.
We passed on Dez Bryant because of his parents and took so called high character johnathon Martin in a draft.
When any team talks this they using are hypocritical in their approach. We have signed our share of questionable guys at times and still preached character.
In the end its just Ross talking.
