No surprise here, but Dolphins owner Stephen Ross told me today that GM Dennis Hickey will be back next season.

Like Barry said no surprise.

I don't have an issue with this move. I would like to see Hickey not take so many "projects" in the next draft. We need more player who can make an immediate impact and less small school kids that need developing and time.

I think he deserves to stay. Hickey only starting installing his own scouts after the draft last year, and went into the 2014 draft not knowing the current personnel like he does now. I'm expecting good things from him. He's had a knack for finding good defensive players in Tampa, and we are going to need that in 2015.

This is the decision that should have been the no-brainer, happened first and then Dennis given the autonomy to decide whether to retain Philbin or hire his replacement. Owner did this half-ass backwards IMO

Would have preferred getting a new coach and take a gamble on Gamble, but it is what it is.

Hickey > Ireland so far. Let's see if he can improve on last year's performance.

This worries me. I think he is a bit lost. Let's see how he does in year 2.

deserves it after the 2014 draft top 2 pick haul...and turner can play too when he gets his chance...just has to be smart with the free agent decisions and stay away from injury plagued or older vets on money contracts

looking forward to the draft top 2 pick haul for the first time in a long time...last years draft was a breath of fresh air the first 2 days let's do it again

I disagree. Hickey hit on his top two picks this year. Can't say that about Ireland. I think his projects were more in Free Agency. Almost every draft pick needs to be developed to a certain degree.

Then again, there are 32 teams and about 20 gms are like Ireland, so....

I'm looking forward to a little stability around here.....give the guy you hired time to do the job, along with the resources to do the job......that goes for both Hickey and Philbin.....

The right thing to do was to keep the band together for one more year, other than Coyle.

> means greater than. I think Hickey did a better job in year one than Ireland did on the whole. I wasn't a fan of what he did in free agency, but unlike Ireland he didn't cripple us with AWFUL contracts in FA, and I liked his first two draft picks. It's possible that if Turner turns out to be a good starter that he will have hit on good players in rounds one, two, and three. That is a HUGE improvement over what Jefflon was doing.

On a semi-related note: He's done a better job than Ray Farmer. I think we dodged a bullet there. The Browns draft haul was atrocious.
