``We recognize the most important thing is winning,'' Ross told The Miami Herald on Tuesday.
``Everything else is on the margins.''

As long as this is never forgotton, it's easier to live with some of Ross' gimmicks... nonetheless, it's still a bit over the top.

Also, it seems the team will focus on marketing a lot more in Miami-Dade than when Huizenga was owner:

The game-day glitz is part of a multipronged strategy to remake the franchise into what he sees as South Florida's multiethnic, glamorous image; rebuild a season ticket base that has sunk almost 20 percent since 2006; and to lure younger fans from around the state -- especially from Miami-Dade County.

``In my mind, I always felt they neglected Miami,'' Ross said of the Dolphins marketing and community efforts during the 15 years Broward-based H. Wayne Huizenga was majority owner.

``It's the Miami Dolphins, not the Fort Lauderdale Dolphins. The heart of this area is Miami. Yes, we are reaching out to that.''

Personally I don't see it as gimmicky.. it's all about the total experience. While diehards will tailgate, there will be others who enjoy walking around the stadium checking things out. I've travelled to stadiums from Buffalo, to Oakland to Miami, to Detroit.. seriously.. some stadiums are embarrassing. We should be happy we have an owner that understands what is truly important.. at the same time wants to imporve the experience. It's smart business.

The whole "Orange Carpet" thing is ridiuclous though man... c'mon. It's a football game, not the Oscars. I don't mind him trying to appeal to a broader audience, but that one is where I really draw the line as over the top.

He's wrong.. it is in fact every bit as much the Broward and Palm Beach Counties Dolphins as the Miami Dolphins. You need only to make the gameday trip down there on the turnpike or I-95 to understand that.

However, I've got no problem with Ross or his use of glitz and glamor to fill those embarrassingly empty orange seats with Fins, not visiting fans. When all is said and done, the team is a business with profit objectives like any other, and situated in a region which is particularly impacted by the recession. Sure, fielding the best team possible is the best business stimulant, but nothing wrong with appealing to your demographic bases or enhancing the fan experience along the way.

But why do you care.. Bill Parcells is running the real show.. Who give a damn what Ross does.. Really.. Orange Carpet, blue carpet, red carpet.. By sundown Sunday evenings people are going to be talking more about the game than who was at it. And that is Parcells territory. So our teams success isn't even in Ross's hands. For which we should be grateful.

Trust me- I realize this, and no one is more grateful than me that Ross has absolutely nothing to do with the football side besides siging their paychecks- but I just think what he is doing is kind of stupid... he's trying to manufacture a celebrity environment. He's trying to turn Dolphins games into Lakers games, and quite frankly if these people aren't Dolphins fans, I'd prefer they stay home. I want the building packed with Dolphins fans- not celebrities who are there because they're being paid to show up and couldn't even tell you the difference between a football and a potato.

I don't think that's what Ross meant- he just thinks the team needs to be marketed in Miami-Dade County better than they have been previously... the season ticket holders and the local fanbase may be spread out across the three principle South Florida counties, but in the end, they are still the MIAMI Dolphins.

I'm just an old timer and remember when the stadium, crowd and excitement on the field was more then enough to hook me to the worlds greatest game...

Now you have a the largest new age billboard to bombard you with ads through out the game.

This play brought to you by Geico
This huddle brought to you by Budwieser
The walk up to the line brought to you by Nike
The centering of the ball brought to you by Nutra systems........join the team

Oh forgot the calling of signals brought to you by RRRRIIIIII......colaaaaaa............

AND now a word from our sponsors......

Hey great idea for Ross, start selling earplugs for those of us who go to the games for the football.
While they still are showing it.......

I wonder how long it will take for these so called celebrity's to jump off the Dolphins ship if they don't win.

There's plenty of fans that live thru out the state that go to games...and of course fans that come from other states.

Since Ross wants to make it all about Miami why don't he put his money where his mouth is and build a real stadium in the city.

A stadium that is geared only for the Dolphins.

That is what I would like to see him and his second rate owners/circus side show do for the team.

:err:

Marlins are out of here in three years, and Land Shark Stadium is a great football stadium.

The Hurricanes aren't an issue playing there either.

Landshark isn't a great football stadium in fact it was built for the baseball experience just as much as football. That is why the seats are a mile from the field. I know the Marlins are leaving but it doesn't take away the fact that the stadium was meant to be a baseball stadium as well as a football stadium.

That's what I would like to ultimately see myself and I was thinking of that when reading that Goodell thinks the stadium is outdated, and that Ross thinks that the upgrades should've been better for the money Huizenga spent... but we won't be getting a new stadium for a pretty long time I would imagine- not when the county and state just shelled out a fortune for the new Marlins stadium (and we all know that even if Ross wanted to build a new stadium, he wouldn't pay for it- that's what taxpayers are for, after all). In the mean time, what I REALLY want to see- and I'm sure you'd all agree- is for the seats to be moved closer to the field once the Marlins move out. The distance of the seats from the field is the main reason JRS isn't and never has been as loud as the OB or other stadiums around the league. That's a BIG issue to me, and I think we should bombard the Dolphins with e-mails on this.

I glad to hear that winning is the most important part of the formula. I hope that he is able to bring Miami fans to fill the seats at land shark this year. I have never been to a game in miami and living in colorado makes that next to impossible but it makes me sick to my stomach to watch home games on tv and see more jets fans there then dolphin fans.
