A bit long, but some questions arise with this so bare with me.
With this mornings news about browns 2nd year gm Ray Farmer getting busted for texting information to coaches on the sideline during games, I thought this was worthy of a review.
I think most wanted Farmer for the Dolphins GM job (not me). A vast majority thought Hickey was a desperation move at the last minute (untrue as he was the 4th interview) and was the worst choice of them all.
So, with the recent event of Farmer cheating (and, as nfl.com hosts added his first draft was unfruitful with the prize, Johny Manzel and top pics not looking good) have any of the nay sayers changed their opinion, not only on the Hickey choice but also Boss Ross who obviously, at this point made the right choice.
Hickeys first draft showed pretty excellent eval skills taking Juwan James in the first and Landry earlier than many draft gurus and fans thought he should.
Of course, Ross didn't see this cheating thing coming but, he obviously passed for a reason, maybe having some insider info about Farmer they didn't care for.
And I know what's coming......., "but NRA, you don't understand, Farmer turned the dolphins down and was always going to Cleveland". Well, not so fast. The team said they never offered Farmer the job as the media reported they did and was one of all but Hickey wanting the finz job. So, maybe his intention was going to be upping the browns and never signing with us or anyone else. Or, like the team reported, they never offered him the job and Ross saved us a lot of embarrassment passing on Farmer. Maybe Farmer would have taken a huge offer from miami. We will never know.
So, are any of the pro Farmer crowd now breathing a sigh of relief over Ross passing on Farmer and does this improve nay sayers opinion of Ross and Hickey?
A NOTE: the browns were fined $250,000 and Farmer gets a 4 game suspension. But, he still gets to keep planning his draft and running the draft on draft day. Pretty damned weak I say considering the offense and even the browns said they thought Farmer would be getting much, much more punishment for that level of cheating.
Personally, I didn't want him. I had 3 others I wanted over him, Hickey one of those 3.
So......, props to Ross for deciding against Farmer and others for Hickey and Ross has turned a corner or is Ross still a bum and Hickey still the wrong choice for GM?
You have to admit, if Farmer did it with the team he seamed to covet, he sure would have done this n another team. Glad we are not team Farmer cheated for.
