It's not letting me post a link but it is under ESPN insider Rumor Central. Says he will be released today if he agrees to pay back the $465,000 roster bonus.

we have enough lineman as it is....Verba is just a bit above-average, just like every other O-lineman we have on the roster

Grew up with Verba and don't think he has anything left in the tank. Can't see him being the player many thought that he would be, way too many injuries.

I don't think it would be a good pick-up just for the fact that he signed w/ the browns this spring and now he already wants a new contract. sound like we would have problems w/ him.

Verba is old and he will be wanting the money. IMO we are fine with the guys we have now.

I wouldn't call all of our o-lineman a bit above average. Mckinney, Smith, and Whitley performed way below average. As for Verba, you're right, we don't need him. He'll probably end up on the Texans or some other team that likes to give players huge contracts that they don't deserve.

Salary cap. We shouldnt even look at him. We are like 7 million over with our rookies to sign. what if Ricky comes back and he is awarded his old 3.5 million salary? Or what if an arbitrator awards him a middle salary in the range of 1.75 million?

We cant sign Verba because we will be over the cap. Plus, hes not a huge upgrade to what we have now. I rather wait until next year and have a chance at taking one of the stud LTs in the draft.

  • Seems clear we are sticking with what we have and coaching them up.... works for me.
  • I really did not see any "investment quality" LT's in FA, the draft or on the cut list. We added McD, Alabi, and Cross and have Pape from NFLE.
  • I assume Houck, Linehan, and Saban have assessed the roster and feel the roster can get the job done.... we'll see.

We passed on the guy from the Cardinals, and he signed a 1 year deal, which means we could have had him a lot easier then first thought. We have the cap room. I see Saban and Co being happy with who we have honestly.

Isn't that why he is being allowed to leave, because his perception of self worth does not match the teams. In other words, he wants more than he's worth. I say h3ll no!

is that your boss hoss, i have one with a 350 in it and it's bad ***

Why is everybody writing off Wade Smith after one bad season. Newsflash, he had one bad season, after stepping in as a rookie, doing his best to anchor a terrible line in 2003 he did a pretty good job. As far as youth, tallent and upside go it is incipid to write off Wade Smith just yet. I have plenty of ideas about what could have happened last season but I would just be making excuses, I just think the man needs another shot.

PS. This post started on topic but instead I decided to go off on a tyraid about Wade Smith. Sorry about that;)
