Ross vetoed trade for orton for 4th rnd pick

There's no way you can possibly defend this if true, and it has *nothing* to do with Orton's ability as a QB.

First of all, why in the hell would you eviscerate your FO like that? If you meddle once, you will meddle again. What happens when it's a move that could've improved the team dramatically? Now I don't know if the McKinnie situation was Ireland or Ross. Same with Carey. You're simply destroying whatever power the GM has, and it affects further negotiations down the road (I can picture agents telling Ireland "sorry we went elsewhere, but they didn't have to check with ownership first).

Second, what if it's not part of a plan? What if that's what we got: a tightwad owner? We're screwed, that's what.

Third, even if this is part of some plan, it's a crappy one. Suck for Luck? So people will flock after your crappy on purpose season? Because I wouldn't. And how would the players feel about wasting a year of their lives in your little project?or the coaches? Or your emasculated little GM?

well this is clearly true. we wont know for sure until next year. and theres the rub. so heres the thing - we are either dealing with a very good owner that excercised some constraint and wants to build a persistent winner, or an owner that is strapped financially, and doesnt have the available cash reserves that he feels comfortable spending. on paper the guy is a billionaire on paper, so even if that is the case, even with the fact much of his wealth is in s florida real estate, it should give him the ability to borrow for cash. this being the case, its most likely option number 1.

we might actually finally have a plan to build a successful franchise. lets see how it plays out

I know another guy named Huizenga that never had the balls to pull such a move.

Hats off to the new owner on that one

Hey Ross go buy a house or something, let the people that know football do the football operations. Im sure they wouldnt tel you about real estate.

sorry, but its hard to believe all this.

any of it!!

for most of the last couple months it was reported by both espn and nfl network that ORTON HIMSELF wouldnt agree to the deal, that it never got to the broncos brass. no meetings over contract. orton was being dissed by the broncs and he knew it, he knew tebow couldnt beat him out and he had something to prove. he knew if he could stall till training camp, they would see letting him go and NOT giving him the contract he wanted was a bad idea. so he kept the finz at bay, not agreeing to ANYTHING they came up with.

and he was right! tebow absolutely stank in camp and pre season and kyle got his deal.

this just sounds like some hack needing to up his story quota. it doesnt make sense. expecially for the fact that wasnt a whole lot to pay for a starting qb.

nope, this is b.s.

your post is NOT accurate at all. what was reported WAS that orton WANTED A NEW CONTRACT, and therefore wouldnt come to miami without an extension. CLEARLY based on the article it WAS ROSS who vetoed the contract, and therefore lead to ortons decision to stay in denver.

this article was WRITTEN BY ESPN. the SAME ESPN, that supposedly reported what u were saying (which is inaccurate)

what was previously being reported and what has now been reported SUPPORT EACH OTHER. the new report simply provides new insight into WHY the deal wasnt actually consummated. it was ROSS's decision NOT ORTONS dude.

orton might have ULTIMATELY decided not to come to miami in the end, ONLY because of the refusal of an extension. and this makes sense for orton, because why leave denver and enter a new system and then end up playing for a new team the following year???? might as well play out your time in denver instead - who knows maybe he even ends up staying in denver.

BUT CLEARLY it was ROSS's decision NOT TO EXTEND that led to orton remaining in denver (even tho this was ortons choice) i imagine the dolphins still would have made the trade for a 4th rounder - they just werent willing to extend at this point

Ireland and Moron O know football? That's news to me...

Btw He spent $1.1 billion for the team...He does sign the paychecks...so...

Your premise is stupid.

Btw the trade is stupid. Ross realizes something that Ortion blows (he does) or he is going to clean house to save the $$$ and picks for the next guy...You don't become a self made billionaire by not being actively involved...

Ross should hire football people to make football decisions then hold them accountable for them......

This may have been a good decision but the fact that Ross is making them is disturbing....I dont want the owner of my team making football decisions period.....If this report is true then how many other decisions has he made that may not be as good? did he veto the signing of both TE FA Shockey and Olson? Did he veto the signing of a veteran OL? Did he veto paying big bucks for a OC? Did he pressure Sparano to reach out to JT this yr?

This is not a good sign for the future of this franchise........

That's the problem, in a nutshell.

I hope this move was made with the intentions of not having a lame duck regime mortgage the picks of a future regime to save their skin, versus the possibility of Ross becoming a meddling, tight fisted miser. I'll side with the former over the latter, simply because Ross has shown he's been willing to shell out substantial amounts of money. He was willing to make Jim Harbaugh the highest paid coach in the league without him ever having coached a down of NFL football. Honestly, I think the guy has felt like his money has been flushed down the crapper with some of the dumb decisions this regime has made. Jake Grove, Gibril Wilson, etc. I would close my wallet on these clowns as well knowing how much they screw up in FA.

He has only himself to blame, there was no reason at all to give Sparano an extension Be Honest and say an extension will depend on performance give clear objectives. The extension did not net us any big free agent or coordinator. this was the only OC job that Daboll had been mentioned for so Im sure it did not matter either way.

thank god ross saw the light and cut these clowns off...maybe there is hope for him still

How can anyone take anything but positive things from this article? The Orton trade was a bad deal from the word go....even if it was for a 4th rd pick. That was never an upgrade people, wake up! What does that say bout Ireland if the Fing owner has to step in and say um.....no. For everyone that is concerened about Ross being another Davis or Jones .....Besides this entire coaching staff what FA could have made this team better? Olsen or Asomugha would have been upgrades but if there was any chance in hell that we could have gotten them Ross would've never said no. So Thank You Mr. Ross for finally ending the cycle of useless QB's for draft picks.

I disagree.
He had to extend Sparano after the Harbaugh debacle. It changes nothing as far as keeping Sparano. It is simply a pay-off. Sparano may be gone after Sunday, but having the extension doesn't change that.
The failed Harbaugh courtship was a PR disaster for Ross. Had it worked everyone would have moved on but it didn't so Ross was stuck.

If he doesn't re-up and Sparano stays then the coach is dead man walking and the season is likely dead on arrival.
What if Sparano would have threatened to resign?
Then Ross would have faced an empty position at coach and with the uncertainty surrounding the lockout no legitimate candidate would talk to Miami since there was going to be no time to prepare the team.
He would have been forced to elevate Nolan early who probably would have wanted assurances of his own.
You think a guy like Cowher would have wanted to sign up for this mess in the middle of the lockout. You are crazy.

Re-upping Sparano was simply the least painful of a bunch of crappy options. What is a couple million to Ross.

Sorry ... but I won't blast Ross for this. I wouldn't pay Orton $9 million/year either. He did good to veto that trade, in my opinion.

I also translate Ross' moves as, "Work with what you have, save the draft picks for the new regime next year."

I never wanted Orton.
