Ross vetoed trade for orton for 4th rnd pick

The money Ross saved by not going after Orton will be easier on his wallet when he fires Sparano and his contract extension and lets hope he told Ireland not to touch any future draft picks.

 Orton at 9 million a year for 3 more years and a 4th round pick

Ross did well here, I don't blame him for interfering.

Right or wrong, the Ross veto could be a sign of a major problem. Living in the Washington, D.C. area, I have seen, first hand, what meddlesome owners can do to a sports franchise. Daniel Snyder f'd up the Redskins for over 10 years before finally giving in and letting his football people take over last year. In baseball, I've been watching Peter Angelos continue to destroy and beat down the Baltimore Orioles franchise for two decades. This decision, the Harbaugh debacle & then Sparano extension, celebrity owners, the circus that is Sun Life Stadium, no 1pm September games, stinks of a clueless owner who cant keep his hands out of football operations. As much as we like to hate on Bill Parcells for quitting, maybe he was just smart enough to get out of dodge at the right time.

"duuhhh it is too hot at 1 pm
we need more night games.."

If true that is great news. Sounds as if Ireland is not in Ross' future plans.

I agree that it "could" be a problem . . . only time will tell, but I think he did well to veto such a deal. Ross is a very successful business man, so he runs this football team like a business . . . what he has to understand is, the best way to attract fans is **** the clubs, **** the suites, **** the other bs, put a winning product on the field. Once you do that, people are going to spend money to watch the Fins play . . . because everybody loves a winner and this is a football town waiting for a winner on the football field.

Outside of keeping the bathrooms updated, we can sit on bleachers and that would suit me just fine in SunLife. Bring the fans closer . . . all these other renovations can go somewhere.

If Ross makes a move like this, that means unless Sparano/Ireland have success this season, they are gone . . . both of them. I would be willing to gamble that there is already a plan in place and a coach/GM combo has already been talked to about certain scenarios. You gotta have an owner pull the trigger sometimes . . . hopefully it works out . . . it sure didn't under Huizenga all those years.

Kyle ortons an average qb to begin with but if he was here behind this oline he wouldnt have fared any better than henne

Only thing orton would have done is hit our cap heavy for the next few years and lose a 4th round pick asset for the next regime

Thank god Ross said hells no

If I were Ross and these guys already committed and crapped away my money with nothing to show for it aside from declining attendance, butts of jokes, and a humiliating streak of consecutive home losses, damn straight I'd insist I sign off on any commitment at this point. The more I think of him, the less troubled I am by his meddling. If there ever was a good example where his stepping in was justified, it's committing $9MM/yr to a QB who's at best mediocre.

Bottom Line: these brainiacs haven't been handcuffed arbitrarily - they earned it!

Third, even if this is part of some plan, it's a crappy one. Suck for Luck? So people will flock after your crappy on purpose season? Because I wouldn't. And how would the players feel about wasting a year of their lives in your little project?or the coaches? Or your emasculated little GM?

We've wasted almost a decade of seasons following mediocre millionaire players. The players can save me their alligator tears. It would be much easier for fans to "flock" to a team with Andrew Luck and a big name coach like Cowher than to yet another team coming off a mediocre season with Henne. Most of these "real fans" who cheer for meaningless games now, would forget about all of this BS this season if next year we have a franchise signal caller throwing bombs all over the field. Of course, I think most of the conspiracy theories are BS, but if Ross is really pulling the strings on Luck/Cowher than he's much more evil(and awesome) than I thought.

That's awesome. Maybe Ross went down the list of all the QBs we've traded for and how none of them have done jack here in Miami, none of them have taken us to the playoffs. Smart move. Keep the draft pick...we're going to need it.

If Orton was worth anything he would not have been trade bait. Good move not picking up scraps.

Not trading for Orton may have been the right decision because of his contract demands, but let's not get any wild ideas that the 4th-round pick we didn't trade is gonna amount to anything.

I don't care who's drafting, 4th-round picks rarely become significant contributors in the NFL.

Ireland deserves EVERY OUNCE of criticism AND THEN SOME... The reason that Denver and Orton could put our feet to the flame and ask for the moon was because IRELAND PUT HIMSELF (AND US) AT THE MERCY OF THE MARKET. We needed a QB FAR MORE than Denver needed to discard one, simply because our cupboard is/was bare...

Orton ain't all that... and the numbers began to ascend into truly MENTAL territory when we had ZERO leverage... The fact we were ready to sign Orton like he was Brady is ALL on JEFF 'QB ain't no big thang' Ireland.

Oh and here's the kicker... Henne is in a contract year... Yessir UFA IN 2012!!! BABOOM!!! Thanks Jeff!!! :bobdole:

ask for the moon??? a 4th rounder for orton??? a STARTING NFL quarterback? u THINK somehow ireland got fleeced on that potential deal??? are u nuts? ireland did well to get the price down to a 4th
