Ross warns new owner will move team without renovations

hahahahahaha

Its called taxes. We all pay them. Rich people shouldn't be excluded. Its what pays for the services we all rely on.

Im sure a stadium would run great without police.

This.

Certain people here were all for giving billionaires free money but they are against welfare on the other end...

Of course you're right ... that's the American way. Coincidently, so is selling your franchise to the highest bidder, who then moves 100% of said revenue streams elsewhere to a location where he/she receives the best financial situation ... because that also is the American way.

Be careful what you wish for ... you just might get it.

I also wish for the NFL to have their tax exempt status removed, then he can do whatever he wants, I don't want these billionaires double dipping, don't give them more than one tax break....personally, I could care less if he sold the team, franchises have moved before,

It really would be a lot easier to take the team elsewhere. Dolphins situation really is a unique one in the NFL that a lot of owners might not want to deal with, especially with a hostile fanbase.

LOL...hostile fanbase? The fan base is anything but hostile. Move to the northeast if you want to see a "hostile fanbase"

Funny line, gave me my laugh of the night

Lmfao same here.. I live in pa.. Eagles has a hostile fan base.. One story I heard.. A grown ass man was going to beat up a 12 year old up for wearing a giants shirt. Another story was they throw snowballs at other fans. Now I know the dolphin fans aren't completely innocent but we are sure far from hostile.

Now thats unfortunate, was hoping he had a definitive deal on the table such as Huizenga did at the end, though those negotiations can happen fairly quickly if he decides to get serious about it. I cant help but hope that he isnt bluffing and this would be the straw the broke the camels back. Then again, investing hope in this franchise never turns out well.

Well, for what it's worth, I heard that tidbit before Bullygate broke. It's possible Ross might have a different opinion these days, but I doubt it. I think he is a stubborn guy and if anything this will make him want to stick around and try to mend things.

Whether that's good or bad, I leave for you to decide.

Ross is laughable and his threats are even more laughable. But the people who believe them... they take the cake. It never ceases to amaze...

Spesh has struck the exact right tone here. Please sell the team, Ross. Oh pretty please. Preferably before you throw good money after bad on a crappy stadium in a crappy location. Combine the ~$200 million that was already thrown into the stadium for improvements to the concourse on the North (?) side with this $400 million chunk... and that $600 million is 3/4 of the cost of a brand new stadium in a good location.

But no... why do that, when you can spend it on a patch that does less for the money (since it will have to work around existing structural elements), will look ridiculously hokey from day one and leave most of the rest of the stadium out of date and in need of another $300-400 million patch in another few years. And what do you want to bet the owner -- whoever he is -- will come crying to the taxpayers for that money?

If Ross or a new owner wants to build a new stadium in a new location I'm willing to listen to a partial taxpayer subsidy, even though I'm unmoved by the "everyone else gets one" argument. But let's not forget that this "improvement" is only designed around one thing: hosting Super Bowls. Not winning them, not helping the team win, but giving Stephen Ross the chance to be the center of attention in February. Pardon me if I don't give a ****.

Can you give us some more info? What exactly did you hear?

I'd rather not make that public knowledge, and if you don't want to believe that someone told me something, that's fine. Or if you want to believe that that someone was full of ****, that's fine too. You might even be right.

(The person I spoke to is not connected to Ross. He is connected to the person who tried to organize the offer.)

Anyway, I heard some weird ones. Including speculation that a Russian billionaire tried to make an offer on the team. I don't think I believe that one, but it would kind of make sense given the rate at which those guys have been buying up South Florida real estate to shelter their money from Russian tax issues.

too much politics

Mr. Ross, just move the team out of that area. I have been a lifelong Miami Dolphin fan and from what I am reading and seeing if the Dolphins are the ONLY team that pays these taxes and the city of Miami Gardens isn't making the Heat and Marlins pay their FAIR share then get the heck out of there. It doesn't seem that the mayors there are willing to do anything but milk the team for any and everything they can get. They want to be compensated forever, how about putting some money up to keep your sugardaddy in the city? How about that? Boy, won't it look bad on these politicians if the team actually does move? I'm sure they wouldn't be around much longer after that screw up.

The name I've always heard connected to offers to buy the Dolphins is Jordan Zimmerman, who's a marketing/advertising billionaire based out of Ft. Lauderdale/Boca. He already owns part of the Florida Panthers and has made offers to Ross to buy the team on at least a few occasions.

The guy is, frankly, an absolute whackjob... one of these hyper motivated, super intense guys who if he sat next to you at a bar and started talking to you, you'd fake a stomach ulcer to get the hell out of there. Part of his shtick is getting up at 3:30 am every morning, to give you an idea. But don't take my word for it, check out his Web site, which includes his many zany vlogs and blogs on issues such as... teacher's unions! And buggy whips! And Israel! And Obamacare!

Can you imagine how horrific it would be to take one of those YouTube freaks who rants into his webcam about this issue or that, give him a few billion dollars, and then let him buy your favorite sports team? Well, that's what this guy is.

Here's the link to his site, charming called "yousleepwhenyoudie": http://www.yousleepwhenyoudie.com/. Don't click on that link if you have any gastrointestinal issues.

Ross' instincts are beyond remarkable. He can't pretend to be a generous benefactor for two days without pulling the curtain on himself with a megadose of fear.

As Walrus emphasized, the only aspect more unbelievable is that people actually believe Ross' goop.

He wants his legacy to be that he patched a hopelessly flawed and outdated venue in a terrible location. This is what we're stuck with. It's the reason I can't leave the stadium topic alone.

Regulus and Walrus covered every angle perfectly. Read those two posts alone and all the key points are highlighted. Particularly important, IMO, is Walrus' mention that a patch by definition is a compromise and a workaround. It's hardly a 1/1 dollar value so you can multiply that 350 or 400 million by something like .5 or .6, if I had to estimate, for the return we'll actually receive. That venue wasn't designed for a patch. It won't be ideal and it won't satisfy the needs and comparisons of the next decade. Our venue will inspire a nickname and it won't be flattering. This is the Gator Day mindset applied to stadium matters.

Identical to last year, I prefer to let this proposal fold and gamble on time and normalcy (NFL franchise staying put) and that the next decision maker can't be similarly inept and lack all threat of foresight. Look how refreshing and satisfying it is to have Jeff Ireland in the rear view mirror. That can be Sun Life if we simply wait.

If Ross is willing to put up money now, and he can't get Miami Gardens to do the deal, then just build a whole new stadium in Broward or Palm Beach.
