Here's my asshole opinion: Ross is skeered to do anything or make any moves until he can be confident that he made a good hire in Dennis Hickey. He'd rather just let Average Joe's contract expire and wait it out before possibly giving more power to Hickey. We may see Hickey involved (perhaps elevated to the Nat Moore brain-trust-- gasp!) in the next coaching search if he comes away with another good haul in the draft and the free agent market. Ross has already washed his hands of football operations as much as he can. Make no mistake, he is a hands-off, non-confrontational kind of guy. After the offseason, Hickey has been pretty much invisible. He's definitely flying under the radar, and will have put himself in a position to increase his influence once Ross finally shelves Philbin's binder.
