interesting to see Rob Ryan's creative use of Matt Roth, by my count he has lined up in 3 different positions( OLB-DE-ILB/NT) the most intriguing use of Roth is when he is lined up over the C on passing downs and stands directly over the C, he is creating problams.

Im sure there was more to the release of Roth but it gets frustrating to see players leave here and discover their game elswher(Wilford)

I wouldnt exactly say Wilford discorvered his game.. welker, i agree. roth, so far yes. but wilford? damn, i dont get the game but am watching the gamecast.. he looks really good?

And to think we didn't even get a 7th round pick for Roth

Goes to show Roth was ready and able to play but mgmt had a bug up there butts and adios to Roth

Whats wrong with that picture

I think there was a lot more the the Roth thing then we know about.

Definitely. I am in the camp of "phantom injury" used as leverage for a bigger contract myself...

edit: but he did play very well tonight. He looks a lot lighter and quicker too.

Phantom Injury, Public Intoxication & (this one is my personal opinion) refused to change positions.

2 ex dolphins tore it up 2night, bowens and roth. Never will play any better than they did tonight. It was for fin cause. Superbowl 2010 at home.

Refused to change position thing I can't see as I saw him lined up as a linebacker. A position he started in college as. Could it be that our coaches didn't want to use him any other way than what he was used at in Miami?

the only thing i can say is sparano constantly talks about the right 53...not necessarily the best 53 when it comes to the roster

cause roth is playing well enough where he should still be on our roster...either that or we should have been able to get something for him vs just cutting him after the trade deadline

Roth was probably pissed that he wasn't getting playing time and had to play second fiddle to Old-Man JT.

Maybe the FO released Roth to play for the Browns so that he could help us secure a playoff berth by beating all the other teams.

To follow up, to me the biggest disappointment is not that Roth was released(you never wanna get ride of good players) but looking at how a player thats been on clevelands roster for what 3-4 weeks is used in many ways.

To me it shows the difference between coordinators( Ive been a staunch Pasqualoni supporter) but we watched a year ago the rotation of Roth on 1 & 2 downs then he would leave the field for a pass rusher yet he was able to still register 4.5 sacks from base defense.
So the logical assumption is that the phins coaching staff didnt see him as a guy that rush the passer, but in cleveland with two very bright defensive minds(Mangini & Ryan) they have a way of utilizing Roths skills if you had a chance to view the game he was constantly creating pressure from many positions(in fact the name AJ Duhue came to me watching the way he was utilized) he lined up at OLB-DE-DT-stand up NT and every time he rushed he forced movement from the QB.

Well anyway I guess the bottom line is the FO didnt like him for one reason or another but seems to me they let a good "football" player get away and I understand contracts and off field issues(didnt stop them from allowing Randy starks to remain on the roster)but maybe the deeper issue is that perhaps I was wrong in my belief in Pasqaloni I think the mark of a good coach is getting the best out of their talent,I have long contended that the fins roster is marginal at best.
However that being said I think in 3-4 weeks the Browns coaches have gotten more out of Roth than the fins did in season in half.

So Wilford's 9 catch, 1 TD season is discovering his game?

Sure there is other politics behind the injury and playing time..., Being let go for "0" woke Roth up..., either way - and realistically he can play with abandon on a team with one win..., the whole Brownie team was loose and Pittsburgh was "tight"..., still they are playing for jobs - and Roth heard that "bell go off last month...

And Pitts cannot protect their QB anyways they left a few keys for our D coordinators
