Rumor: Lewis To Leave Bengals To Replace Cowher?

RUMOR MILL: A popular rumor going through town: Lewis will leave the Bengals to replace Bill Cowher as Steelers coach.

Cowher is expected to announce his retirement after the season finale Sunday in Cincinnati. The Steelers were eliminated last week from playoff contention.

Lewis is under contract with the Bengals through the 2010 season but was a member of Cowher's first Steelers staff (1992-95) as linebackers coach. Lewis also is a Pittsburgh native.

Wow. :eek: Leave the Bengals and join the enemy? Perhaps Marvin is sick and tired of all these bad characters on the Bengals team. I don't know, the Steelers would have to give up some draft picks. I don't see this happening, but should be interesting.

Wow. I really don't see that happening, but I really don't think the Bengals would be in such a bad position if that happened. They get some high picks, they could promote Bob Bratkowski to HC, Ken Zampese to OC, and probably not miss a beat. Still can't see it happening though.

steelers are just 2 - 3 good draft picks and players away from competing so any coach would love that job.
