Rumor: Mets nearing deal for Twins 2B Castillo

Butera is a catcher. He's 23, turns 24 in August, and hit fairly well in the Sally League (.258/.348/.418), but has been totally overmatched in AA.

Martin's a 23 year old OF who's doing okay in the Sally League, but the Mets are chock-full of A+ outfield prospects as it is, so he's no great loss.

Its a very good trade for the mets, Its always nice to have a vet that has done it before, but I do like Gotay

Im really going to miss Castillo, I'd have to say he was one of our best all around players. I really liked his personality too, he was always goofin around. Best of luck to ya Luis!

edit: Adding this news to the KG news...im just overwhelmed right now, 2 of my favorite players being traded away...i dont know what to think. All I know now is that I'm a Celtic fan lol.

dont get why the mets make this trade?

while its a small sample size they could give a chance to platoon gotay and easley.

gotay has a .950 ops vs. righties and easily has a .930 ops vs. lefties.

while luis is battin .714 and .692 respectively.

As a met fan i agree. Easley is more of a backup and Gotay is questionable on D but Castillo is a below average hitter at this point and his speed is gone it seems. This is the exact opposite of what we needed, someone who can drive in runs. Freakin useless trade.

Now we have 5 2b on the roster: Marlon Anderson, Easley, Gotay, Anderson Hernandez, and Castillo....Why again did we do this?

Below average hitter:confused: How's that?
I'm very happy with this trade. Excellent #2 hitter, and plays the kind of top D that Omar covets. The most important thing to me is that I would not want to see a team with serious World Series aspirations go into the postseason with a platoon when they could have had a top 2nd baseman. I want continuity in the starting lineup.

Anderson and Easley are both solid utility players, not just second basemen. AHern goes back down w/o a second thought. I don't see the problem.

Maybe a better way to put it is hes a guy who cant get the ball out of the infield. 106 hits and 14 for extra bases and only 9 sb's. Nothing special at all. Id want singles from a pinch hitter not an everyday player.

They better do something more, alot more, if they want to hold off ATL and Philthy. Dye would be nice, so would oswalt. Get crack-a-lackin Omar!

The best thing that can come of this is that at years end we offer arbitration, he declines, we get a pick when he signs elsewhere.

Problem is:
#1 - Gotay will go down for this, and he's clearly performing better. We should stick with Gotay til he stops hitting.
#2 - We'd be incredibly dumb to offer Castillo arbitration.
#3 - Castillo would be incredibly dumb not to accept arbitration.
#4 - No one is going to sign Castillo if he requires compensation :tantrum:
