I'm only seeing these rumors on fantasy boards where there's panic from Ronnie owners and speculation from Ricky owners and even interest in Lex Hilliard as a waive wire pick up.

This Lisfranc injury - an often misdiagnosed mid foot slight fracture as I understand it - is the same injury that derailed the career of former Lions RB Kevin Jones for a couple of seasons.

Rumor has it Ronnie is seeking a 2nd opinion b/c he doesn't like the first opinion he is getting which maybe this Lisfranc diagnosis. Rumor has it Ronnie may be done for the year.

Yikes! I sure hope this isn't true.

We all love how Ricky has been playing but I don't think we can expect him to carry the load ala the Wanny years now at age 32.

Lex Hilliard is a tough guy but slow and plodding.

Kory Sheets is supposed to be explosive but couldn't make the cut in SF b/c of poor blocking/blitz pick up from my understanding.

I liked what we saw of Lex in that one preseason game but then in the next week's preseason game, he looked slower and even fumbled. Frankly, I was surprised he made the team and I'm pretty sure he made it b/c of his STs kick coverage ability.

If Ronnie is done, is Lex enough of a compliment to Ricky? That would seem like a pretty big load to be handed to Lex.

And if Ronnie is really done for the year, might that have been his last game as a Phin? I'd be shocked to see him get a long term deal. Even before the injury I was thinking they'd franchise tag him for 2010 or even just tag-n-trade him before 2010 but no way they give him a long term deal.

Hmmmmm.....

Anyway, best wishes to Ronnie and I hope these rumors aren't true.

Big O was saying this on his show and said it was just speculation from his part. Relax we will know more as the week goes by. Right now lets focus on Carolina and have some confidence in Ricky.

Oh I'm confident in Ricky. Ricky is a GREAT talent and as much as I like Ronnie, I actually think Ricky has been our best and most explosive RB this season.

But I imagine Ricky has benefited by having Ronnie there to share the load and I'm concerned about what kind of contribution we can expect from Lex Hilliard. Will he be ready for 10-12 carries?

Ronnie is too tallented to just trade him away. with Ricky looking to retire after next season the fins would be insane to dump off the entire ground game. I don't believe for a second Bill Parcells (or this coaching staff) is that stupid. He likes his teams to run the ball and control the clock.

I alluded to this 2 days ago in other ronnie brown threads. A lisfranc injury ( I am not a medical doctor but am in the medical field and have a doctorate) is nothing to take lightly. It often is not seen on x-ray especially with significant swelling.

Kevin Jones from the Lions had this injury in 2007 IRRC. It is serious and can ruin a guys career.

C'mon! Rumors on fantasy boards?

A possible good indicator for the severity of R.B.'s injury is by how much Ricky Williams is used on Thursday.

When evaluating a "foot" injury, what else do you think is wrong? Fracture? Doesn't appear that way. High ankle sprain? Possibly and that is a 4-5 week sentence at least to fully recover. Torn ligaments or tendons should have shown up on MRI. A lisfranc injury is more common in the NFL in the past few years and definitely something that can easily be missed on x-ray and given the way he was rolled up on, a possibility. I am pretty surprised that they are "hush-hush" about this too. That is what is worrying me.

I think so. This is a great opportunity for some of our unheralded players to make a statement. As strong of a run-first team as we are, consider:

Ricky - outstanding but an older player.
Ronnie - outstanding & in prime playing years, injured with injury history
Cobbs - promising player, injured in middle of '09 season... back when?
Hilliard - unproven
Sheets - unknown
Polite - dependable FB, short yardage specialist. Potential for more?

If this is where things stand in the Spring, the running back position will definitely need some shoring up in the draft. And if one of these young guys wants to do something about that, Thursday night would be a good time to show their stuff.

It is still just rumors from people who haven't seen the X-Rays nor are qualified to diagnose it.

Again the way the dolphins are handling this injury is peculiar. Regardless if I am medical doctor or not, I can tell you with 100% certainty that lisfranc fractures are often misdiagnosed and not seen due many times due to the level of swelling. Hell fractures are missed when there is swelling as well.

There actually have been many players who have had lisfranc injuries. Heck Donald Thomas had one last year from what I can gather. Guys like larry johnson, Dwight Freeney and Ty law all have had the injury at one point. However being that RB needs to cut and juke, IF indeed it is this kind of injury, it could be one that sets him back a year.

Obviously, we don't know. Just speculation. However, the possibility is very real IMO.

That's what Chargers fans said about LT.

Running backs simply have very, very short shelf lives. A rookie RB in the 2010 draft and trading Ronnie is probably the more prudent and practical move.

Ricky - outstanding but an older player. - Without the usual wear and tear of an older RB.
Ronnie - outstanding & in prime playing years, injured with injury history - 4 seasons, four injuries
Cobbs - promising player, injured in middle of '09 season... back when?
Hilliard - unproven - probably has the best chance of anyone on the roster of spelling ronnie or ricky for long periods of time.
Sheets - unknown
Polite - dependable FB, short yardage specialist. Potential for more? -nope I'd say his potential is blocking and short yardard.

Ugh. This sucks. Ronnie is my favorite player on this team, and I'd hate to see him go. But I guess the reality is, he's about to be 28, he's injury prone, and to resign him he would have to get a big contract, and he's never really been up there with the elites.

Still, it would really suck to see him go. At least we aren't the only fans going through this, the Eagles have to see a similar one with Westbrook.
