RUMOR: Stephen Ross wants Jon Gruden AND to keep Jeff Ireland

ireland i want GONE i want his house GONE i want his family GONE i want his car burnt to the ground

I think our "options" open up depending on our draft choice. If we're sitting pretty at #1 overall, the options are endless. Every single coach would know that they have the "next Peyton Manning" to work with in Miami. Parts have been in place and Andrew Luck would be the hypothetical last piece to consistent playoff runs.

We don't know about previous drafts, but we do know about 2011, and currently I would say 2011 has been the best draft so far. Still early of course but Pouncey is great obviously. Thomas looks to be very good when healthy, and Clay, Gates and Wilson all have been promising.

So anyway, hopefully Ireland has put the wheels in motion to Suck For Luck.

Ireland is easily the best GM we have had in decades... EASILY.

He is the man who has engineered the complete and total train wreck that actually has us in the running for Andrew Luck... He is a talent evaluator without equal because clearly he has been targeting Luck for four years now and knew what it would it would take to get him...

I think there are family pictures with Ireland cradling a baby Luck in the delivery room... The man is effin' psychic. His plan was to target Luck from the jump, it is all so obvious now... Passing on QB's and skill positions, signing retreads from the Dallas pipeline... insulting vets, rooks and their moms... Single handedly dismantling both sides of the line and leaving us with precisely the same holes in the lineup as when he took the job... I'm betting there is security cam footage somewhere of him punching Pennington in the shoulder when it looked like he might get healthy and win us some games. You go Jeff.

Now the REAL miracle will be if he can actually KEEP HIS JOB through all of this... Climb so far into Ross' trousers and convince him that this was the plan all along. Jeff Ireland - Genius.

i would agree with the draft side...although i still don't think he got great value with his picks relative to what was on the board it does look like he got some guys who can help us for the long haul this year...but his pro player personnel decisions and evaluations of other teams players and cuts well thats been downright woeful...you bring in marc colombo and think its a good idea and start him on your oline and i don't care what you do your grade needs to take a major hit...and if this is the way you envisioned using reggie bush point blank you should have never traded for him in the first place

As hard as I have been on Ireland, and I have been - both of these issues are really coaching. I do also recall, that Sparano was to be given more say on some personnel issues. I think that Colombo is a no-brainer Sparano deal. He worked with Colombo in Dallas and wanted him here once he became available. Bush I think also could be a Sparano / Daboll get and they told Ireland to obtain him if possible. What has been done with him in the offense, well that is coaching.

by the way there's no way in hell Ireland will have final say over Gruden so it will be Gruden, who has a history of questionable personnel moves making the decisions.

Ireland is a no talent hack! I can't believe you people want him running this team!

If Ireland really is trying to get Luck, and thereby getting whatever coach he wants (Gruden), then signing Marc Colombo is a terrific idea.

When we had a top five defense last season, did we not think Ireland had done a good job rebuilding our defense? This team is such a mess that I'm really not sure if it's talent or coaching. I think it's a little of the former and a lot of the latter. I bet that a good head coach could win 10 games with this group, even in this division. I mean, Tony Sparano managed to win 7 games with pretty much this same team, so that tells you something right there.

imo, Ireland would be a good director of college scouting, he seems to do well in that area. free agency has been mostly bad. The weird moves at the end of training camp every year might be Sparano's influence, but someone has screwed up a lot there.

Some of you people are morons. **** Ierland he ****ing Blows. Can't you Idiots see that.

Ireland is horrible. I could build a better team on Madden 12. The Dolphins sat by as other teams in our divison got better through free agency or the draft. How many people did Ireland drat that is still with the team? Then that dumb stuff with Dez Byrant. We will lose out with good coaches if Ross tries to feed Ireland down people throats.

Thats who I want as HC...John Gruden

If we get Gruden and Luck it would be a dream come true!

As for Ireland, well he has made some good picks, but terrible FA signings...we can have Gruden provide input on FA signings

If you fire Sparano, imo you have to fire Ireland as well.

With that said, there are quite a few people lately that do not agree with that thought. In fact, just in the past week, two well known people Drew Rosenhaus and Adam Schefter have come to Ireland's defense and have made a case that he should stay even though Sparano is/will be gone.

Rosenhaus called him one of the most knowledgeable GM's in the league and that everytime he talks to him he comes away extremely impressed. I was listening to an interview on WQAM's website from last week with Adam Schefter, and when the host said that it was "likely" that Ireland would be fired Schefter said not so fast. He gave some praise and brought up the comparison of Martin Mayhew with the Lions. Schefter cited that Mayhew was Matt Millen's right hand man and Lions fans were pissed that the organization kept him. Turns out it was a very good move not to dump him.

We also have to keep in mind that up until last September that Ireland was not calling 100% of the shots in making roster decisions and draft picks. Even this year he is not 100% in control because Sparano has some say on the roster also(hello Colombo signing). Is Ireland perfect? No. Should the Dolphins go in a different direction? Possibly. Is it a disaster if he stays on in some capacity? I don't think so. Someone like Gruden is not going to come here without having some say on who the team signs and drafts, so it is not like Ireland is going to have full control. As many have said, this past draft is looking like it might be the best one overall since he arrived in 2008. A Gruden/Ireland or hopefully a Cowher/Ireland could work.
