Saturday resigned....

Might be a better idea for comparison sake to use Matt Birk or another free agent center

id be very angryif we just handed this guy the starting spot unless they fully intend on satele playing gaurd

Shoot. Hadn't heard about Saturday. Here are Matt Birk's numbers. Might be better than Grove, but you don't know what you're getting. Might get a top-10 center, or an average center.

Matt Birk:
2008 - #19
2007 - #9
2006 - #19
2005 - Did Not Play
2004 - #7
2003 - #2

put satele at guard, and have him compete with donald thomas

when Smiley gets hurt ( we all know it'll happen) we'll be covered

Then when Grove gets hurt we'll have a Berger, and Smiley will have someone to rehab with.

But then what do I know.........

Very misleading post about the stats.

First the stats you list are how well the team ran up the middle or behind either guard for the year. Listing the center's name with the rank is misleading and assumes the guards deserve no credit or blame for the teams success in running the ball anywhere inside.

Second, the stats do not take into account a fullback, the defenses faced or the running back running the ball. Brandon Jacobs is going to give the Giants a pretty good average versus say Reggie Bush.

This is taken directly from the site :
"However, it is important to understand that these ratings only somewhat separate the offensive line from the running backs. A team with a very good running back will appear higher no matter how bad their line, and a team with a great line with appear lower if the running back is terrible."

Agreed there are many factors. One stat usually doesn't tell the whole story. However, I wouldn't expect Grove to come into Miami and become a top-10 center or the next Dwight Stephenson, based on those 5-year stats, either.

Acquiring more depth is always a good idea, but for an average center like this, maybe I'd go with no more than 3-year-$12 mil or 4-year $18 mil(backloaded or performance bonuses)(have a way out after a couple of years in case Satele beats him out).

On the other hand, maybe spending this money on another position would make more sense.

stats can be misleading. Lets see some tape on this guy. I am sure the best center will be playing regardless of how much he signs for. I think we have a WR who can attest to this.............

Dont be surprised how well a guy improves when you put good players around him and give him good coaching.

Guys put a little trust in this organization who took us to the playoffs last year. Grove is a damn good C.

The other disturbing stat is 46 starts in the last 80 games. Perhaps this is affecting his stats. Is he injury prone?
