I have in the past, and will continue to say that this coaching staff and their West Coast Offense is a poor fit for this Miami team. In their second year they should be getting better, but they're getting worse. Philbin/Sherman want zone blocking and an offense that features quick, short passes which basically take the place of the running game. However, Miami seems to play better football when they concentrate on running the ball. That never lasts because the coaching staff doesn't want to do that; especially in the second half.
Even though it's a passing league now, teams still need to be able to run the ball. Years ago when everybody ran the ball, the teams that threw more started winning more as defenses were built to stop the run. Today, teams are being built to stop the pass, so why not take advantage of that and run more? I'm not saying that Miami should ALWAYS run the ball, but a balanced attack with a lot of running seems to fit this team. The 1st half of the NE game proves this... the passing game was more effective with a good running game. When Miami starts passing constantly, bad things happen. Most of the sacks/strips occur when Miami is in the all-passing mode, and rarely come while the team is running the ball well. This is because the staff's offense is putting the o-line at a disadvantage by having them do things that they're not good at doing.
Get rid of this coaching staff and their offensive gameplan, and find someone who doesn't shy away from running the ball.
