Ryan Tannehill in a new system.

Two points seem most important to me:

1. Any change to the predictability of our offense will be a good change. Defenses not knowing run vs. pass and not knowing the snap count will help a lot. Flexibility with things like screens and multiple formations and receivers changing spots will help. So, there is a very real and substantial upside to a new OC.

2. Tannehill is still a bit inexperienced and he hasn't yet mastered THIS system, and I'm sure learning a new system will take a while. He's very bright and a hard worker, so he'll get there, but the early season isn't likely to be smooth and consistently pretty if the system is a major change. He's still getting used to Wallace, now their timing may be more off.

There are a lot of innovative OC candidates out there these days, and if we can get one to take the hot-seat job, it could work out very well. But, most will want to wait for a more stable coaching environment.

Talent-wise, fixing the OL should do wonders for the running game and Tannehill's excellent play-action off of that.

First of all, the constant is Ireland. We can go through 100 coaches, and Ireland is still here.

Second of all, I highly doubt Philbin is going to compeltely change his scheme with a new OC. They will just get an OC who Philbin knows.

Nothing will change.

Just let him improvise a little bit more. Kaepernick and Wilson both take advantage out of broken plays. I believe this coaching staff were trying to hard to make Tannehill become this stoic pocket passer.

Turn him loose.

what is this new system stuff everyone is talking about? if joe philbin is the head coach there will be no new system. they will run the same offense. what is called and when it's called may change but the system wont.

Exactly. Nobody has said the "system" is changing...

people are so stupid.

you think changing the offense doesnt affect everyone?

We are trying to get Wallace in full line with this system and now change is good. We just did change! lets let it settle in with more talent than we have had in a long long time, with the ability in FA to add even more.

I agree with you. My son and I could literally watch a game and accurately call the plays 75% of the time, even the routes our WRs would run. Pathetic. If we could do it so could the NFL. Add to the predictability issue, we ran no screens, used no motion, rarely used a bootleg or rollout (tannehill's strengths), rarely attacked the center of the field and always kept Wallace on the right side of the field, making it easier to match him up with the other teams best corner. Most teams in the NFL move their playmakers around to create mismatches. Not US! I also believe there was some truth to the whole prereading our snap count. Sherman was horrible. He was a relic and this is a positive move. Its a start. I would live to see Ireland go but I do agree with Armando that Ross might bring in a Czar like they did with Elway in Denver. I think this is agood start

Rivers just changed systems and had a great year. I think Tannehill will thrive in a new system. But I don't think there will be much change. Go back and read Philbins introductory interview. He's brought his system. It's probably true he will get more involved in the offense. A new system can adapt to what Tannehill has done well the last two years.

You can wipe with Charmin or the cheap stuff...... its still going to be ****ty.

im excited to see him in a new system. I think he was being held back by Sherman. but we shall see

Even though Ross gave the coaching staff some comfort a few weeks ago,he still hears and see's what we all did this season. There are dozens of ex Dolphin players coaches that chime in even during the season and Ross hears that. Ross isn't as dumb as some make him sound. Ex-Dolphin players care about this team and dozens are more than willing to express their opinion.Wouldn't surprise me if active player's were somewhat involved also.

I wouldn't count out a major face life for the WCO this off season. It may be the same core offense but it wont look the same. You dont remove an offensive coach to run the same offense thats just crazy.

It's not too hard to see that all the feedback Ross received was heavy on the lack of offense. Also if Sherman was still here he would have rolled the offense over anyway in year 3.Keeps defenses honest.Which means there was more to Sherman leaving than just one thing.

Yes of course, just like last year. We were supposed to have an exciting offence this year. But Ireland decided to let key guys go and mess around with the Defence instead. Now that's a bit sarcastic but not far from the truth. We in no way went all out on offence.

Depends. Depends upon how much of a hand Philbin had in the old system and how much he will want to be in the new system. If they bring in someone that will use the WCO but not the GB system that Philbin is tied to then we'll see the WCO but we wont see the Sherman WCO.

Will Philbin bring in a 'yes' man? Will he bring in a crazy talented guy that will want to do things his own way? A lot depends on who they bring in. The fact that they are looking at someone from GB (according to the media) doesn't give me much hope that things will change too much beyond the GO/GO, GO deal. We shall see who they finally decide to get.

When we signed LBers at the time I couldn't understand why we were going defense other than to speculate that we were going Offense again in the draft....then the draft came and we went DEFENSE again.

I guess you missed the Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Keller, and Clabo signing?! Nah, all defense in that wacky offseason.

In any level of football, good passing offenses throw decisively over the middle and weak passing offenses throw timidly down the sideline. We need more rushing attempts and play action, enabling Tannehill to plant and throw confidently down the middle. Some schemes to open those zones wouldn't hurt. As Nick Saban emphasized tonight, Malzahn runs simple plays but all the window dressing makes them look complicated and allows things to bust wide open.

If we continue to sit back in the shotgun and ask Tannehill to throw deep lobs down the sideline, nothing will change. He'll be jumping around and throwing his hands to his helmet after yet another near miss, the 903rd of his career.

He'll definitely have to learn more than just a shotgun package. I wonder if Tanny will slip in a few GO-GOs next year for the hell of it.
