It's such lousy and lazy reporting for commentators to say that Tannehill was a 'converted WR' or anything like that.

Ryan Tannehill came to college to play QB, was beaten out for the job and instead of sitting on the bench, he became part of the WR corp at Texas A&M fora period of time until winning the QB job and staying at that position until being drafted.

Stop saying he was a 'converted wide receiver'. It irks me to no end because it creates a completely false narrative.

Within the first minute of the broadcast on Sunday, the play-by-play guy said the lie that's driving me nuts.

Tanny is an athlete first...QB second. That's not a knock, btw. It's the same with Russell Wilson, Tyrod Taylor, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, and Jameis Winston. This is the future of the NFL. Gone are the days of Sonny Jurgenson, when a QB didn't have to be athletic and could just throw the ball well. Outside of Carson Wentz and Derek Carr, most of the successful young QBs I'm seeing run like RBs or WRs AND throw like QBs. It's the modern prototypical QB.

The reason that I don't agree with you, Montequi, is that Tannehill's not even that great of an athlete compared to real NFL WRS. His lateral movement is very subpar for a a WR or a ballcarrier.
He's still a stiff guy who has some decent straight ahead speed and just enough hip flexibility to be able to make SOME plays on the run.

Tannehill is nowhere near the athlete that Taylor, Prescott, or Russell Wilson are. I've yet to see Tannehill ever be the least bit elusive.

While not possessing the straight ahead speed of Tannehill, Dan Marino was a better athlete than Ryan Tannehill. Dan Marino could make someone miss until that achilles injury.

Agree with you Flipper, but it doesn't irritate me. If I got irritated every time a poster or even a commentator / analyst said something stupid like that, I'd be in the loony bin at this point.

Marino was a better athlete than Tanny? That's laughable. Marino could move well within a 5x5 box, but outside of that he was probably the slowest QB in history. Compare Tanny to Steve Young or Joe Montana. Tanny isn't slow, he just doesn't get opportunities to showcase his speed.

Straight ahead speed, by itself, does not make an athlete. Balance, fluidity of motion, quickness make an 'athlete' a lot more than just straight ahead speed. 1980s Dan Marino was certainly more athletic than Ryan Tannehill.

I'm shocked you needed an example of a qb that's not athletic but can sling it and DIDNT use Dan the man as your example! Good job?

When they feel they can call him a franchise QB, they will stop calling him a former WR.

That's the Truth.

I just don't think that Tannehill is the caliber of Steve Young, Fran Tarkenton, a young Donavan McNabb, early Daunte Culpepper, etc when it comes to being an athlete.
I still think he's pretty stiff out there, He can just run fast in a straight line.
I do give him some credit for some of the throws he's made running laterally. Some. That play where he threw a lame duck over Marquis Gray's head around the 10-minute mark of the 3rd quarter was so frustrating. He was pretty brutal for much of the 3rd quarter. It was the same old Tannehill again there.
Let's be honest. He made 1 special play yesterday that had to be made: The 3rd & 7 pass to Landry to keep the drive going where they took the lead. That was truly a make or break play. I think they lose that game if he doesn't make that play and it did take some good balance and athleticism to evade rushers and throw a great ball there. Yay.

Tannehill is not one of those qb's. He isnt looking to run most of the time, he wants to pass first. Make MULTIPLE reads, not one.

:crazy::crazy::crazy:

I love Marino, but I think that's a stretch. Dan moved like a psychic ballerina avoiding barracudas in a 2 foot radius. Any movement more than that and he looked like he was pulling a breadtruck. And before I get grief, Marino was the best QB I watched play.

Go back and find the film of Tannehill jumping over the two tables on the sidelines a few weeks ago. Dan would not have built up enough steam to make it to the tables, let alone jump over them. Then you have the DE from Seattle, Bennett, saying that Tannehill was the best athlete on the A&M team...not him or Von Miller. Even if you discount some for exaggeration, Tannehill is a better athlete than you credit him, I think.
