Given the turmoil and controversy that has surrounded the Miami Dolphins for much of the 2013 season, the team deserves a great deal of credit for hanging around in the playoff hunt in the AFC.
Those postseason hopes stayed alive in Week 14 with a 34-28 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the eyes of AFC East Lead Writer Erik Frenz, Sunday's victory is more evidence that Ryan Tannehill was worthy of the high draft pick the Dolphins spent on him in 2012:

In a quarterback-driven league, you’re not going to get very far unless your team features an above-average passer under center. With the Dolphins' playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Tannehill has turned in some of the best football of his young career. His performance in Sunday’s wild win over the Steelers was just that.
It was only the second time Tannehill has thrown for three touchdowns in a game, and the Dolphins’ 34 points was the second-highest total of any game in Tannehill’s career and their highest of the season. The Dolphins now join the rest of the league, after being the last team to score 28 points or more in a game.
Sure, Tannehill’s pick-six was brutal, thrown to a triple-covered Brian Hartline and intercepted by safety Troy Polamalu, but he finished strong. His 95.5 passer rating was among his best of the season.

Sure did....

The Tanny haters :boohoo: are going to have a long off season....the past 2 weeks must be killing them!

This wasn't even his best game of the season. The difference yesterday was that Charles Clay makes an amazing play instead of dropping the football. Go watch the cut-up of every dropback he had against the Ravens. We lost the game? Yeah, it sucked. But you watch the dropbacks start to finish, that's damn good QB play.

As LAXCoach mentioned in another thread, there is plenty of tape out on Ryan Tannehill, and even with guys jumping the routes we run too frequently, he is STILL improving. This kid's legit. Just enjoy the ride.

He's been doing it since he became a Dolphin....progressing faster then many thought on draft day and getting better as the season progresses. I said it when I joined the forum Tannehill is the team starting QB for the next 10 plus year barring injury and will lead this team to a Super Bowl during his career with the Phins...

I don't think anyone here hates Tanny, if they do they're complete *******s and shouldn't be considered fans. However, there are realists, I didn't think much of Tanny a few weeks ago, he was having a real rough patch. With an improved line, he has been playing very consistent including making plays with his feet, throwing the ball away, doing a much better job with progression reads and looking defenders away. He's been growing up right in front of our eyes the past 3 weeks. Let's just hope it continues.

I heard Skip Bayless this morning say Shannahan wanted to wait and take Tanny or one of the other QBs rather than move up to take RGIII

Give him Eric Ebron, a big possession receiver, a power back and some athletic o-lineman and he will prove how elite he really is. He's still learning the position and it will still take some time, but for us old timers who have seem a parade of average QB's playing for the Dolphins since Dan, he is the hope for the future. He's also not a primadonna like RG3 or Cutler, and seems to be a hard working, humble, lunch pail kind of guy, who wants to be a leader. Look how he compares to Luck right now, and Luck was supposed to be the most NFL ready QB since Peyton. Tannehill is going to be very good, and the two 80 yd drives he put together yesterday in a very tough enviornment, with a playoff atmosphere, proved it to me. Now Ireland has to earn his money and get the offensive pieces we need to be truly elite.

Actually, Tannehill is reaching a point where he is making those around him better. Far from a finished product but the progress he is making is very encouraging.

I would give our whole draft for Kelvin Benjamin, Karlos Williams, and Cameron Erving from FSU.

He hasn't looked great but he has been having solid games for a few weeks in a row. He is not a liability out on the field and you have to like that. I wished he would've been given a chance to put the nail in the coffin on Pitt yesterday

There are a couple things RT needs to really take Miami to the next level.

1. A big WR to go up and get the ball, like a Mike Evans from A&M.
2. Improved line play.
3. Either a new OC or play calls that get receivers in space and hit them in motion.

One thing about Tannehill that I think most will agree with me on: holy crap, this kid is TOUGH. Busted shoulder, busted thumb, and I've even seen him come up limping on a couple of sacks... and he just keeps hanging tough. Throws a pick six and apparently said on the sideline "Oh well, here we go" and goes out and throws a 40 yard bomb on 3rd and 4, follows it up with a great touchdown pass. Wow. I see him get criticized for his intangibles now and then and it's just like, are you kidding me?

He is certainly better than what a lot of teams are rolling out as a starting QB. You can do a lot worse than Ryan Tannehill.
