MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins season may be over but the issue of quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s injured left knee is still ongoing.
Tannehill sprained both the ACL and MCL in his knee during Miami’s Week 14 win over the Arizona Cardinals when he was hit low by Calias Campbell.
Miami went on to win that game and their next two with backup QB Matt Moore under center, clinching the team’s first playoff berth since 2008.
As the Dolphins moved closer to their Wild Card matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was never taken off the table that Tannehill could return and play for Miami.

He never did though, and now there is talk that Tannehill may actually need surgery despite the team saying that he would be able to play again without going under the knife.
According to WQAM’s Orlando Alzugaray, Tannehill will get a second MRI on his knee on Monday in order to see whether surgery will in fact be necessary.

@NFL sources tell me Ryan Tannehill is set for another MRI @MiamiDolphins fans on Jan 30th which could determine if he needs surgery.

The Dolphins are still a ways away from taking the field in preparationsfor the 2017 season.
Voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) won’t begin until mid-to-late May and mandatory minicamp would come in early-to-mid June.
Surgery for a partially torn ACL and MCL generally brings a recovery time of six-to-nine months.
Should Tannehill need surgery, that would keep him sidelined until at least August, which is when the team will be participating in training camp and the NFL Preseason.
The 2017 NFL season begins on Thursday, September 7th but the Dolphins Week 1 game will more than likely be played on Sunday, September 10th.

I really don't understand this whole process we have been run through for this injury. By now we should have a firm answer. We should have had a firm answer a month ago.

It makes no sense...either he needs it or he doesnt...we are 8 weeks later now

What gives?

Hopefully this 2nd mri is a progress check more than anything else...maybe its just wishful thinking on my part

come on miami get that kid ready! 2017 cant be window dressing out the damn gate

If you check the other Ryan T. threads it was pointed out he could very well at some point- need the surgery..

sometimes they have to wait for swelling to go down before they can make a decision. This does seem like a l9nger wait than normal though

Swelling might take a week before they can make a determination....not 8 weeks. Its like they realize he needs the surgery to stabilize everything but they want him ready for OTAs and don't know what to do. Mind blowing.

Gonna be pushing it to be ready Week 1, if he does have the surgery. Shaking my head on this one....

I blame albert romano and his matter of factness

Off with his head!

He should have had surgery right away and would be over a month into recovery by now!

The wait is to see if the ligaments could heal on their own. The upcoming MRI will provide an answer.

He could have and should have had surgery 2 freaking months ago!

If this isn't just a routine checkup then in hindsight this was handled in the worst way possible period. 6 weeks of recovery time lost.

Now for medical experts out there is the rehab time dramatically shorter by any chance for partial tear surgery??
