Poor mans Budda Baker in the STAR role?
Yes, but a pest to which team; the Dolphins or their opponents. - LOL

I would be surprised if we don't see some more FAs added to this group.I will say this, Miami's scouting department generally does a good job with secondary evaluations.
That will certainly be put to the test too. Will Smith step up and become a valuable starting corners? Bonner, Johnson and a few other young corners will be given a chance as well. Unless, Grier brings in a veteran in the next phase of free agency
Which Will Smith we be talking about here?I will say this, Miami's scouting department generally does a good job with secondary evaluations.

Oops. Well, Smith anyway.Which Will Smith we be talking about here?
You can see his short area quickness and physicality when watching his LaCrosse highlights. They seemed to have transferred to his football highlights. He plays like a Swiss Army Knive, running all over the place. I see the vision Miami may have for Trader. I wasn't thrilled with either 5th round DB, Miami selected. But after settling down a bit. I think at the very least Trader offers high upside as a tremendous special teams player, who may find himself playing a role within the defense with more experience. Time will tell.Seems like smart player who doesn't have all measurements. Trader being a lacrosse player is actually a plus.i ve coached lacrosse and it does translate to a point to football.
Grier said in his pre-draft press conference that he has tended to put too much emphasis on traits. This pick shows a change in philosophy like he alluded to. Great production and game tape and below average testing. I liked this pick because I think instincts, toughness, and intelligence are even more valuable than being an elite athlete when it comes to playing safety.2.12 RAS? Yikes that’s tough…he’s got to know the playbook inside out study film like a maniac and take perfect angles if he can ever become a starter.
Probably a backup and special teams, those traits are hard to overcome.

Offerdahl was an even a better player than Zach, but he was fearless for his size, and he couldn't hold up physically. I loved that guy. I remember watching him walk from the player parking lot into the stadium before the playoff game against the Chiefs at Joe Robbie in January 1991 and I couldn't believe how small he looked compared to all the other players.Offerdahl had instincts like Zach's and was fearless with his body.
Sure, it is always a jump from college to the pros, but he will not be asked to be a "coverage" safety, so to speak. He will be more of a zone strong safety where he can use his strengths. His instincts and intelligence.I completely agree with you that production and tape outweigh testing and traits, my point is it will be that much harder for him with the athletes in the NFL that his processing instincts awareness etc have to be elite for him to overcome all the athletic deficiencies.
Same thing as Zach Thomas and his other traits outweighed his lack of athletic ability and still allowed him to dominate. Trainer just has a harder battle than if he was a better athlete, but then he wouldn’t be available in the 5th anyway.
Lol his best attribute is his tackling and his low tackle miss rate.meh.....
Not a great tackler
Not a great in coverage
just meh!
Single digit missed tackle rate last year. Maybe not a monster hitter but he is a sure tackler. Also a film rat in the mold of some of our hometown favorites. Incidentally Phillips also a film rat. These guys are the kind of tone setters the Dolphins desperately needed.meh.....

Love that. Thanks for sharing I hadn't heard any of that!Single digit missed tackle rate last year. Maybe not a monster hitter but he is a sure tackler. Between the draft picks, guys returning from injury and the handful of FAs (Daniels in particular) I assess about 1/3 of the roster upgraded in small to large ways on both sides of the ball. And most of the roster is young guys who are improving. No reason to be pessimistic other than the fact our division opponents all seem to have improved as well.I would be surprised if we don't see some more FAs added to this group.
Our Cap is our limiting factor.
We can have a few FA's at a reasonable price or more, less than ideal FA's at a reduced price.
Now that we have used the draft very effectively this year, it's time to evaluate the effectiveness of our coaching staff over this and last year's draft class.
I'm looking forward to an unexpectedly high level of improvement on the field on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball due to better play.
