I don't hate him.

If you think about it, he managed to accomplish a lot his first year here. Were it not for Chambers & McMichael's lack of focus we could very well have won the East and gone to the playoffs.

He was a ****ty GM though, and the QB move he made ruined our entire year there is no question about that. The Fins staff hated his guts too. He has always been a jerk to work with from what his previous college staffs have said about him to the media...

Jason had some interesting things to say about him recently....

Alot of people around here thought it was hillarious when he made Manny look like a child in front of his team mates and probably ruined him for life. While most thought that was great I'm sure that incident showed our team that Saban was a punk that he don't care about them and is a ********. Saban was nothing and I wish we never had to hear about that POS again.

Saban had his good points, where as Wannstedt didn't have any. The dislike for Wannstedt was magnified by the devious way he was brought into be head coach after practically destroyng the Bears franchise and the way he brought in his buddy spielman to be GM. I don't think anybody really believed they considered another candidate for GM, it was all smoke and mirrors.
Saban on the other hand just had a big ego that got in the way of his coaching and he didn't take all of the Dolphin fans to be fools like Wannstedt. Saban knew what he did was wrong but I am sure he was embarrased at not accomplishing what he planned in Miami and he probably had doubt's he ever could. At least Saban had a halfway decent draft. Maybe not great or that good but decent. Wannstedt's drafts speak for themselves. Saban will forever be remembered for the way he left Miami, not for what he did or didn't do in Miami. But this is JMO.:err:

I understand that a lot of people still hate Nick Saban. All I can say to those of you are get over it already. It's been 7 months. Yeah, he's a douchebag for leaving the way he did and there were definitely better ways to handle the situation. But that's all in the past now. It's a little rediculous the pile on mentality that still exists around Saban. To say he was a worse coach than Wannstedt is just plain ignorant.

Saban brought in some very good players through the draft in 2 years. Ronnie Brown, Travis Daniels, Channing Crowder, Matt Roth, Derek Hagan and Jason Allen all could be starters this year. He also brought in some good players via free agency such as Keith Traylor, Kevin Carter, Vonnie Holliday, Will Allen, and LJ Shelton. There is no doubt that he left this team in a hell of a lot better shape than he found it. Of course there's always going to be the Brees/Culpepper argument to hang over Nick Saban's tenure in Miami. It's well documented that Saban wanted Brees but the team doctors wouldn't clear him. So instead we ended up with Culpepper. Was Culpepper the wrong choice? I guess we'll never know now. But when you honestly look at it, if you have 2 QBs one with what is the worst shoulder injury you can have and one with what is basically the worst knee injury you can have, which one would you choose?

Saban was a dictator and he ran his team with an iron fist. And in the NFL players aren't as responsive to that as they are in college. But honestly Saban did a good job here in Miami. He went 9-7 in his first year when he had a decent QB, a good RB tandem and Chris Chambers played like he knew what the hell he was doing. And a 9-7 mark for a first year head coach is nothing to be ashamed of. The 6-10 season I think was more of an aberration of having Ronnie being hurt for 4 games, Chambers and McMichael playing like they just don't care and having Joey freakin Harrington as our QB. It's not accurate to say that Saban didn't get a fair shot because he wasn't run out, he left on his own accord. But I think that if Saban would have let Randy Mueller do his job as GM we would have had a great team.

After all it wasn't till Saban came in that Jason Taylor won DPoY. He made our defense which was already one of hte best in the league even better. I mean, when you really look at it most of the players on our team progressed under his leadership. So while he might not be a great GM and might be a jerk and I agree with you all that he should have handled the entire leaving Miami situation a lot differently. But he's not a bad coach. He's a defensive genius actually and he knows how to get the best out of his players. He's just apparently not a really fun guy to play for.

My only problem with Saban is the way he treated people, which from what I've read was like crap. You don't treat people the way he did, and for that, whether it's ego, narcissim, arrogance, social incompetence, whatever, I dislike him. I wish Alabama mediocrity throughout his reign only because I think Saban, as a person, is a d**k.
As far as how he left and the work he did here, I think he did his best in his way to procure the best players and to win. Ronnie Brown was the best value at #2, late rounders like Evans(couldn't have known he'd implode) Vickerson, had promise, and Roth, Crowder, and Hagan are promising.
I don't know what he should have done differently when he left. Everyone complains about him "lying", but really, the man was caught between a rock and a hard place. He lies to keep his situation from being a distraction, he's a liar. He tells the truth, he's an idiot for allowing it to become a distraction. A "no comment" is as good as an admission. He was screwed the second the info leaked.
Wannstedt was a good man and a bumbling GM. If Mueller had been picking his players from Day 1(or a comparable, capable GM)things could be A LOT different today.I want to hate Wannstedt, but the man wanted to win and was heartbroken when he blew it at his dream job. He had no ego or ulterior motive, a la JJ(whom I don't hate either). He just wasn't very good at personnel. That should have been recognized and dealt with earlier by someone who's higher up.

Saban sucked. Capers was/is the DC. Saban was nothing but a quitting loser that had no respect. The reason we won those 7 games at the end of his 9-7 campaign is because Carter and Holliday motivated the team, Not Dick. Don't tell us to get over it.

the only way he made our defense better was by bringing in capers.
CAPERS came in and JT won DPOY dont give saban credit where it isnt due.
saban had a plan for this team that may have worked had he stayed and implemented it but the bottom line is he didnt. so for that he was a worse coach for the miami dolphins than wanny was.

again, your give saban undue credit. most of what you just said can be attributed to scott linehan. look what happened when he left.

there is plenty of doubt about that.

i seriously think i hate saban more than pornstache...

I can understand anger towards Saban, but I don't see how anyone can "hate" Dave Wannstadt. The man was not cut out to be a HC and GM, nothing more, nothing less. He did his best and he handled his job with reverence (towards Shula and the history of the franchise) and decency.
He was a good defensive coordinator, but did not have the organizational/motivational skills to be a HC.
I am glad he's not the HC any more, but I hold no ill will towards him. Saban, on the other hand.......

Ah, so just because I like Alabama Nick Saban sucks? Why do you just quit crying about it and realize that Miami is in a better place for not having Saban? I 100% guarantee you that if Nick Saban was still the head coach none of you would have a problem with him being the dictator he is. If he was still here you'd probably be praising him for his 6 game winning streak at the end of 05. I can almost guarantee you that every single thing you hate about Saban (except for the way he left Miami) were all the same things you loved about him while he was here. I say that because it's the same way with almost every Dolphins fan I know. Most were extremely excited to see Saban come to Miami. Many were pleased with the way he ran practices because there was so much discipline lacking when Wannstedt was coach. I remember that the majority of us loved the fact that he blew off dinner with the president just to show his commitment to making the Dolphins the best team in the league. Maybe his personnel moves were a bit suspect and I'm not arguing that they weren't. But you're a complete fool if you think that Nick Saban isn't a good coach. And I say this being a Dolphins fan first and a Bama fan second. Trust me, I've already had to wrestle with it and I've made peace with it. The man made a mistake. But as a poster already said in this thread if Saban says no he's not going to Bama he's a liar. But he was asked while the season was still going on? What coach in their right mind is going to admit to leaving their current team while the season is still going. If he says he's going to Bama then he probably gets fired before the end of the season or if he stays it's a huge distraction around the team and that's not helping the organization. If he says no comment, as was pointed out, that's just as good as an admission that he's leaving. He did what he had to do and you would have done the exact same thing if you were in his situation and if you would haven't then you would have handled the situation wrong. So, again I will tell you to get over it. It's been 7 months, the Dolphins are in better shape for not having him as head coach anymore, and it's time to look forward to the future of the Dolphins and stop worrying about the past.

I never liked him. The sad thing is I liked Bama and now I have to hate them. I'm not crying just stating facts. Why don't you get over your denial and quit trying to give him undeserved credit? Saban was a loser like his record indicates and is a quitter. Don't expect to spread ignorance to Dolphin fans that know football.

And that would all be well and good except that the defense that we currently run was installed by Nick Saban. Not Dom Capers. So...you're wrong.

again, your give saban undue credit. most of what you just said can be attributed to scott linehan. look what happened when he left.

And I think you're being very short sighted. Yes Linehan was instrumental in the 6-0 run but you're foolish if you think that Nick Saban had nothing to do with it. You say look what happened when Linehan left, but realize that we had Mike Mularkey as our OC who is possibly the worst in the NFL and we also didn't have a capable QB, we had a Chris Chambers and McMichael who looked lost most of the time, a hurt Ronnie Brown for 4 games and no Ricky Williams. There were a lot of changes on the offense from 05 to 06 so you can't just say that because Linehan left that's why things fell apart or because Linehan was here that's why things clicked.

there is plenty of doubt about that.

No, no there's not. There are upgrades at almost every single position from when Saban inherited the team to when he left. After the 4-12 2004 season this team was a broken down mess. We had guys like Jay Fiedler, Travis Minor and David Boston starting. The talent level all around is a lot better now than before Saban came in and if you don't agree then I don't know what team you were watching in 2004.

Nick did nothing on D but confuse the secondary. Capers will fix that this year.
