Saban closely evaluating the Center position tonight....

Yeah you have to play your best five players. Wannstedt did that one year. The year Ricky won the rushing title. Dave went into camp with basically, a hodge podge bunch of tweeners and said, ok, best five will be starting. Jamie Nails made it in and cleared the path for Ricky on more than one occasion.

Personally, it sounds like our startinvg five ( barring injury ) might end up somewhat decent:

LT Carey
LG James
C Hadnot
RG Middleton
RT McDougle

McIntosh, McKinney, Cook, Whitley (ugh) and Smith (if healthy) would be the backups. Personally, I feel comfrotable with the starting lineup. Hopefully they can remain healthy.

We will not cut McKinney except as a last resort. More likely, if he stinks it up tonight, we'll use him the rest of camp in situations where he can look less bad so that we can trade him right before the final cutdown for a conditional draft pick.

Ephraim even seems to be outperforming him. Middleton will have the RG spot locked up soon and we'll be ready to go.

LT- Carey, Alabi
LG- James, Cook
C- Hadnot, Ephraim
RG- Middleton, St. Clair
RT- McDougle, McIntosh

I hope this is the way it turns out. Realisticly, I see Seth staying on as our primary backup at both guard and center. Alabi could be practice squad. I don't think Cook is a lock. We could only keep 9 since Seth, St. Clair, Ephraim, and even now McIntosh can play multiple spots.

They wont cut Seth, remember he can also play guard and IMO he is a better guard than a center, so they will keep him for depth.

That's what would probably happen.

Actually Hadnot might be a better C eventually. He was a very highly rated pass blocker at C in college, and can make a push in the run game. The problem is he can't get to the outside and block like Casey Wiegmann and Mawae.

Very good points. Rex went to Houston right? Definitely need to pass block in that offense. I just don't know Houck's scheme well enough to know if he's a good fit at C.

Does Houck want the Center to pull?
