And it's freaking genius!!

(His philosophy on using a lot of personnel on offense) – “We would like use a lot of personnel on the whole team. We’d like for everybody on the team that dresses for the game to have some kind of role in the game and the more players that we can get to be responsible to do a job that way, it keeps their motivation and morale up. It stresses some of the other players a lot less, in terms of the number of reps they have to get. I just think it is good for team morale to be able to do that. That is something that we need to do a better job on some other parts of our team so we don’t get too many guys playing too many snaps to where it affects their performance long-term.â€Â

It didn't hit me until about half way through the paragraph, at first I thought, "what the heck?...he's doing this like we're a Pop Warner team?"....and then it hit me....it's great...it's simple and it all boils down to get everybody ready to play....the more reps everybody gets, the less drop off there will be when back-ups are forced to play due to injuries....but not only that, you also force the opposing coaches to game plan for 40 players instead of 22..

Look at all the interchangeable parts...the other teams have to track the tendancies of that many more players...and it takes time away from studying the regular starters. They have to study Carey on the right, Carey on the left, tendancies when Stockar and McKintosh are in as opposed to Carey and McKintosh, where to attack the defense, when Crowder, Spragen Seau and Zach aren't where their supposed to be because they can all play anywhere....coming soon the big question all opposing defenses will have, "which RB is in now?" ....

...and just when they start to find a weakness bam, everyBODY changes....

What do you guys think?

I love it. It's like a great chess game. Except using sticks of dynamite for the pawns.

If Saban keeps going like this....I hope he doesn't quit to run for presidnet in '08!

I love how I have a typo in each and every post. Spellcheck feature anyone?

I guess it :
  1. Keeps the "TEAM" motto...
  2. Keeps players motivated...
  3. Helps the coaches finds chemistry on the field...
and as you stated above Infins, it helps the scheme when backups are needed...

Good thread...

I think your post is amazingly optimistic, but I enjoyed every freaking word. It does seem like it's basic pop warner principles, then you think, "how could that work in the NFL? " and maybe it shouldnt, but maybe it gives back to the players what the salaries slowly take, the joy of the game, the excitement ( yo, im tearing myself up), the sense of being part of something more important than the 22's on the h2..who knows? Dude, if its pop-warner or co-ed flag football tatics it takes, we are 2-1 and looking mighty respectable at this point so early in the season. I like the rotations, and like you stated, when Ricky returns, it will open up things even more..I think the bottom line is, we've got ourselves a winner for a leader.

Amen!

Good post.
Another good point to make is that by rotating many guys in and out it keeps our players from burning out as the season goes on...that was one of the problems in the Wanny era...no more late season collapses please!

I was about halfway that my light came on too. I threw someting out there a few days ago about although odd, it seems to be working and this assures little drop off. The article just brightened the whole thought line right up. I hadn't considered the preparation issues or the morale issues. This concept is really cool, everyone HAS to prepare like they will play. We see this all the time at NE, no drop in production. Right before our eyes the change is happening. This is a wonderful time to be a Dolphin fan, I can almost hear the "new" fans we are about to acquire who about to show at our door wanting to ride with the band.

The downside to this of course is getting 40 people that are dangerous from a talent standpoint and getting them all coached up to not make serious mistakes and able to take advantage of their talent...is a very hard thing to do.

Lol... it's like an assmebly line. Everyone has their job, and the more reps you get the better you get. The industrial revolution of football!!!!

not really true, keep in mind all these guys have 4 yrs high school, and most 4 years of college ball under their belts at a minimum. The talent level (while yes, their are a few stand outs) is not that far off from one player to the next. Plus if your a player like walker who gets in the O for about 8 - 10 plays per game vs. a player like Chambers who will try harder for those 8 - 10 plays and make that all important 3rd down catch. The backups may lack a slight talent edge, but that can be made up for by a HUGE motivational edge.

Good post!

Don't ya just love listening and reading stuff from Nick? Its like you can always learn something from this guy. Amazing.
