Wannsetdt had to marry Fiedler, and he lived and died by him. Wanny stayed away from QB's in the draft such as Brees, and others because he was set on Fiedler's ability to carry his team to the Superbowl. That vision eventually sunk his team and eventually his career. Quick point...QB's Like Ray Lucas, Jim DrunkenMiller and Josh Huepel...were brought in, but nobody of any signifience.

Will Saban make the same mistake, especially with the eventual high draft pick for 2007? Does he face a Brady Quinn on draft day, and then pass, in hopes that HIS decision on Culpepper will eventually pan out? Let's face it, Harrington is only here one year, I think hes suppossed to make in the 5-6 mill range next year and that just wont happen. Plus Harrington wants to start in this league. This franchise has been reeling with very odd draft picks for quite some time, and its obvious now, because those picks are gone. 1st round picks Jamal Fletcher, and Eddie Moore Jump to mind...(i just puked a little) While teams like the Pats who pick in the last 5 picks every year, seem to know what they are doing.

Your thoughts?

Calm down with the Fonts. We can all read the standard size.

Right now, that comparison is an insult to DW/JF. They won a division and a playoff game. Saban/Culpepper aren't even CLOSE. They suck, and I hope they both get ridden out of town together.

There is no way Saban + Culpepper = Wanny + Fiedler. Wanny didn't live and die with Fiedler, he lived and died with Ricky Williams. When he up and left is why Wanny lost his job. We need to let Culpepper have a healthy year before we draft any QB(in the first round). Actually, you can draft as many QB's as you want, but if you don't have an O-Line none of them will work out and we will be having this talk again next year about it being a mistake for drafting Quinn. Wanny didn't trust Fiedler to carry a game. Saban seems to trust Culpepper, but C-Pepp just isn't healthy right now. Give the man a year, and build around him. As far as the patriots go, they found their QB in the 6th round, so that shows that you don't have to spend a 1st round pick on one. You just have to have a O-Line and team built around them which the pats have done.

yeah your right a QB with a bum knee and a coach that inherits a team with no depth get exactly 4 games to win and if they don't then fire thier ***** and get another couple guys. Oh yeah, they got picked to go to the superbowl so they must flat out suck if the talking heads get it wrong. Give me a break. You guys better get ready to be disappointed again next year. When Saban just blows up this team to completely rebuild instead of going for the quick fix like this year.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Dave & Jay had almost 5 seasons together, and Nick & Daunte have had 4 games. You can't even begin to compare the two yet.

at least saban benched daunte when he saw he wasnt producing. wanny would watch someone not produce and let em play out the entire season

Shouldnt this be in the fantasy section. Some threads on here crack me up, thank god for some serious threads everynow & then.

when is saban going to bench moolarky??

And you are saying Wannstedt passed on Drew Brees(and you mention others, but I have no clue who he passed on exactly that has made a difference other than Brady), who was never viewed as a top 5 pick, while Quinn is. That's kind of an unfair comparison.

Players get benched, not offensive coordinators. And i think you spelled his name wrong.
