I don't know how much attention everyone paid to his press conference today. There is alot to be learned from it.

(On changing players) - It is not going to happen. Saban believes that he has the best line-up starting right now, even though Miami is not winning games. That tells us alot. It tells us that Miami does not have a very good team right now. They are average at best. They obviously have to work on things that you would hope starting players would already know how to do. But they don't. Bottom Line: Lower your expectations of Miami Dolphin football this season. The starters have alot of work to do.

(On play calling) - Saban believes that players win games; not the play calls. He believes that you should call plays that give your best players the opportunity to win games. What does that tell us? It tells us that he thinks Gus Frerotte is one of the best players on Miami. It also tells us that he thinks Chambers is one of the best players on our team. That is who the coaches went to when it mattered most. Personally, I would have went to Ronnie Brown or Wes Welker. Those guys have a fire about them and want to win. I'm sure alot of us will disagree with Saban about who is the best players on the team.

(On Reggie Howard) - He thought Reggie played a great game except that last 59 yard pass to Dwight. He wasn't to fond of Howard at the beginning of the season, but apparently he thinks Howard is one of our better players now. That is why he will not change and have him benched. Remember? No changes. He will try to develop Howard this season.

(On Gus Frerotte's Index Finger) - He knows that Gus has alot of swelling in his finger. We don't know what hand it is on because the reporters didn't ask. It will be reassessed on Wednesday. Will Gus start on Sunday against the Browns? If he can go, he will. Saban will want him to go. If he can't, we may get to see Sage because of an injury.

The bottom line is that Miami has some problems on their team. The players that are supposed to be "superstars" are not at that level anymore. It doesn't mean that they won't return to that level. Rather, it means that they have some growing to do as players. They will do that growing the rest of this season. Don't expect any changes or new faces in the starting line-up. And Saban likes Linehan. It is obvious that he believes he is calling good games. It is Saban who thinks that certain players are not playing at the level they need to be playing at. And he is willing to continue to work at it until they get there.

If there are any of you out there with playoff dreams, forget it. This is the way it is.

One thing about him is his pressers are way more thoughful than Wanny's. That's not saying much but it's like steak vs chub meat.

Thanks for the information.

The only thing I contend is your assessment of our talent. I think we have talent, our problems lie in the intangibles. We don't really have a winning attitude, we are very inconsistent, and we don't make the plays that we should. I think all those things are changing, and will continue to change in the future. We don't have the talent to win a SB, but we are pretty average IMO in terms of talent, not as bad off as some believe. Once we function as a team, I actually think we can get on a roll. I see us being one of those teams that wins 4 of its last 5 or whatever and carrys the momentum over to next year.

I'd like to see Nick starting to play some of the young guys more now.We should see what guys like Vickerson and Manny Wright and Matt Roth can do.All the talk about Sage doesn't really matter to me.I really don't think he's the answer either so I don't care if we stay with Gus but I'd like to see the young guys at the other positions just to see what we got with them. The o-line is getting better and I'm not so sure that we need to draft one in the 1st round anymore unless someone's there that's just too good to pass on.

Ozzy rules!!

Give Saban a break already.

Just compare our team this year to last years team. We are in every game this year. We only lost Sunday in the last few seconds. Saban will have this team in awesome shape... just give him some time, please. There are a lot of areas that need some improvement and you can't do it in one offseason and one draft no matter how good you do. Quite frankly I am proud of our Dolphins and Nick Saban. They may need some polishing but we've come a long way. Thanks for listening to me vent. :) :) :)

i think it's obvious that it's gus's throwing hand that is injured, otherwise it wouldnt really matter.

This is a very solid post. Sad to say, but I am at the point where I think we are once again one of the doormats of the NFL (Thanks Wanny/Spielman  ). The only bright spot I see at this point is a high draft pick where we can realistically get a franchise LT or QB. It is hard for me to give up on the season after only our 9th game but yesterday's game took a lot out of me. I didn't even post on this website again until the next day. Sunday's game against the Patriots was for our entire season. We have no chance to win our division now and that was our only shot at making the playoffs this year. There won't be two teams from the AFC East going to the playoffs this season, only the division winner which we will not be. This is a very sad time for me.

I know. It seems like a joke. But he basically said the best players are on the field and he is going to continue to work with them. That means he thinks Howard is the best Miami has right now. That is why he still plays. It is unfortunate. But don't worry. Things will get upgraded in the offseason.

Trust me after this season, Howard is GONE!!! I disagree with most of the post. He is saying things that are player and media friendly. Next year like this year will be a lot of new personnel. Howard and his hefty contract are gone.

Does it really shock you that Miami is struggling to beat winning teams this year? But then again, how close, even with some of the holes we have, have we come to beating New England and Atlanta?

No, it tells us he thinks Gus is the best QB on the team to lead this team right now, is anybody shocked by the revelation that we need a QB?

If there are any of you out there with playoff dreams, forget it. This is the way it is.

Anyone who did, was looking thru Aqua and Orange colored glasses, it is enough for me that we are playing hard and that the young talent is being upgraded. Saban will get rid of the rest of the Wannstedt/Spielman trash after thsi year and replace them and we will be on our way.

Well, I guess we will see. If Saban means what he says, he will not change players out this year unless they get hurt.

the same can be said for last year when we lost 7 games by one score or less. nonetheless the youth movement had to get started at some point and there are more positives than negatives. next year should be fun again

The injured finger is on his throwing hand, he hit it on a defenders helmet while throwing the ball.
