Mike and Mike on ESPN radio gave out their midseason awards called the Mikeys.

Saban won for worst coaching job. Specifically, they noted that he should have been able to figure out that Culpepper was not ready and his forcing him out their killed the season.

Hard to really argue with that. Let's hope the second half of the season is better than the first.

I hate to agree but the award is deserved. We aquired Joey for that very scenario and when the time came to hand the ball off the coaches fumbled.

Can't disagree. He's failed on a few levels. Not just with the QB situation, but taking all of this talent and not being able to get them over the hump against teams like Houston, Green Bay, Buffalo, etc. I belive in Saban, but I think he'll tell you that this was one of his worst jobs through midseason. Then again I'm sure last year was too.

Saban went all or nothing. We got nothing. It was a gamble. It's called gambling for a reason, if gambles always worked out they'd just be called 'winning.' If nothing else, Saban proved his integrity to win by taking that chance with culpepper. Not to mention, in shorts and practice, Culpepper was doing everything right. Culpeppers problem didn't lie within his physical state, it was his mental state. So don't make the mistake of thinking Saban knew Culpepper wasn't mentally ready, hes a football coach, not a cognitive psychologist.

I've posted this a million times. The guy saw an opportunity to bring in a pro bowl QB and take us to the big game. He had to give it a shot. Chips didn't fall is way. Happens.

He makes so many mistakes just in a single game I dont know why everyone focuses just on the Culpepper thing. Oh well, Saban's learning. Hope he picks this nfl thing up quickly.

Saban will be fine, not worried at all. Saban's success will be in long term. He tried to win short term, gambled and lost. It happens, you can't fault him for trying to win.

Let's not forget how well Belichick did in Cleveland. Not exactly a stellar five year stint to kick off his NFL Head Coaching career. Now almost everyone considers him one of the greatest coaches of all time (including me, as much as I hate the Pats).

I think Saban is also a great NFL Mind, and will be a great head coach for years to come. Even the great ones need some time to get their stuff straight, and I am confident (and hopeful) that Wayne will give Nick the benefit and allow him the time he needs to truly turn the franchise around and bring us back to being a perennial winner. :dolphins:

It's hard to argue we'd be any better if we started the season with Harrington. We should've started Harrington from game 1, but not because Harrington would give us the better chance to win. Ideally, Culpepper should've been rehabbing until he was ready to play (probably by game 10 or 11).

If your being sarcastic big, he's technically tied for worst. Your only as good as your record.

Actually, Green has that all wrapped up right now.... :D

I'd argue I haven't played a down of football but I could tell the Cpep was slow in pre season and Joey was much quicker with zip in his passes. I'd also argue that we wouldn't be 2-6 right now had we started with Joey. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
