get it that are still on the roster. He actually said there were a couple of them. Was Smith one of them? Do you guys have any idea who might be the other (s)? I wonder if Jeff Zgonina is one of them. I think he gives great effort and is a veteran so I would be surprised. What do you guys think?

I really have no idea who he might be talking about, but it's time that he do something and light a fire under these guys a$$e$. Go Saban.

I have a shocker. It's Rex Hadnot the human penalty flag. He had more penalties against him last year than ANY lineman I've ever seen and he is still
getting flags. Think about it Saban has picked up 2 guys that have experience at Center the last 10 days.

Maybe you're right....he may be thinking of placing Hadnot back at RG and perhaps shuffling Bennie Anderson? I don't have much to base in comparison with the guys we just got (Jacox,Darilek) since I really never saw them play before...Saban probably knows something we don't? I don't think he would replace Hadnot honestly because he's one of the leaders on that offense...and especially on that line.

If you had to pick the best o-linemen on the roster, who would you pick?

I think I would go with Vernon Carey since he's seemed like he improved a lot since last season and was determined to get in really good playing weight.

My gut tells me Zgonina is not one. More likely he is a causalty of our depth inside on D. Release him and we can shore up one of the other thin spots - OL & secondary. Plus he is old. We are looking to bring in younger talent and can afford losing a DL player

You know you might have hit the nail on the head. I hadn't thought about Hadnot. But, yeah we do now have a few on the unit who can play center.
IMO one of the guys he's referring to must be Manny Wright, though.
With that said, Saban seems to be building a monster of an O-line-weight wise.

In my humble opinion......I don't think that he is talking about anyone in particular. I think that it is a great motivational tactic.

Wade Smith is gone because he didn't get what playing winning football was about.......then he puts every other player on the roster on notice that there are still players who THINK that they are playing winning football......but aren't. Every single player on the roster must now look at themselves in the mirror and evaluate whether they fit in Saban's description.

Brilliant move by Saban.

You make a good point as well.

if one of these new guys steps up, I think you see Hadnot go back to guard. One Berger recovers, that's the end of Bennie Anderson

Good Point!

You nailed it, IMHO.

I loved the actual quotes...

"We have three kinds of guys on our team," Saban said after conducting a practice in preparation for Sunday's home opener against the Bills.

"We have guys that get it; they play good; they understand how to play winning football.

"We have some guys that are trying to get it, and they are working hard every day. ... We are supporting them, and we want the guys that have it to support them.

"Then we have some guys that don't get it and don't know that they don't get it. We are trying to replace them. We only have a couple of them
."

Yeah! Go get 'em Saban! :D

Oh, and do you think Eddie Moore was one of those guys who didn't get it? LOL

I have to agree that I don't think Saban is talking about anyone in particular. He's just serving notice to all who don't get it that they'd better realize that they're in peril and work their butt off trying to get it if they want to continue drawing a paycheck.
