was wondering how may of you had any comments if you had read Nick Sabans book
How Good do you want to Be?

Written after his LSU champoinship season...it is worth reading as it tells you alot about his mindeset, drive for excellence, appraoach to coaching, and drafting strategies.
Excellent read for any Dolphin/LSU diehard...

Also Foor for thought on the upcoming draft...some were taken from the book...

1) Coach Bill Belicheck(sp?) has called Nick Saban his Mentor.

2) The system that Coach Bill B used in Cleveland and New England for scouting talent was created by Coach Bill B and Nick Saban. This is the primary system used in New England during since Bills tenure there.

3)This is not Nicks second year drafting in the NFL. He has a few years under his belt in the NFL as an assistant prior to last year.

Living less than an Hour from Tiger stadium in Louisiana, I have followed Nick for both his LSU tenure and of course last year. One of the first things I did when he became coach at Miami was go read his book How Good do you want To Be?

I think if you read this book, you will remove all doubts about this mans ability to construct a winning football team thru both the draft and free agency.

I am about a third of the way through the book. So far i have enjoyed the book, and it allows you to get into saban's head a liittle bit.

Full of stories from his LSU coaching and life experiences. This man is pure Genius. A team coach all the way. No wonder so many players buy into his system. I recomend the book it's a long but great read.

While on the topic of Saban, how do you all feel about Wayne Huizenga and how he flew to LSU to get Saban as the Dolphins next coach. He knew what Saban was all about and really went out to get him, not all owners would do that (they would expect a coach to come to them). So how would you guys rate all that Huizenga has done?

huizenga is the man, he has proven that he is commited to taking this team to the promised land!!!

I've been real impressed by Huizenga, although I don't have the rage that some may have due to his dealings with the Marlins (which I think is where much of the hatred or dislike that does exist comes from). In my view, Wayne has done everything he can to build a successful franchise, including going above and beyond what one would expect of an owner to ensure that he has success. Just my read.

Huizenga did an excellent job hunting down Saban. However, I was very displeased when he retaned Wanny after missing the playoffs two years in a row and promoted Spielman to GM, that caused the debacle we call 2004. But he made it up to me, by going after Saban with such vigor.

I highly recommend this book! For true Dolfans that want to understand how/why some decisions are made, pick it up! It will make the decisions that are being made in the front office make sense. After reading the book, I can understand why Huizenga was so adamant about getting him to be the coach. The book has a lot of LSU college stories since he wrote it while being the coach of the Tigers.

It also has a lot of good advice on how to be a good Person, Manager, etc. instead of being just a here's how I won a national championship. I truly enjoyed the book and, like I said before, highly recommend it to people.

Give it a shot!

I read it. It was a good book. I wouldn't call it a great book....but good. It did make me feel good about the direction our team is going though. I will eventually read it again.

It was a pretty good read but just when the book started referencing Saban's mastermind it would switch gears and talk about Rohan Davie, Matt Mauk or Clayton and how they were great team leaders. I really wanted (want) to know more on how Saban does it from a mental standpoint and what his daily regiment/routine is.
I am absolutely amazed at his public speaking skills for instance and his organizational skills-that is the stuff I was looking for. I guess he didn't want to give away all of his secrets though.

Even a blind squirrel....

Wayne has made his share of crater sized blunders.....allowing Wanny to coach his team...Puppeteering Dan Marino,...didn't fire Dave when he should have....giving Rick Spielman the GM job.
He also begged for Jimmy Johnson to return for another year after he stepped down....hence the hiring of Wanny the caretaker for Jimmah.
