I read Saban's comments about the QB positon on Monday. It is very obvious that he is too sensitive about that position. Here is what he said about Sage starting this week:

''I talk to the players all the time about things like that,'' Saban said. "This should not be an issue. We don't want it to be an issue. I know you all are going to try to make it an issue. And the more you make it an issue, the more I'll need to talk to Sage."

"I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with it until you make it an issue. The more you make it an issue, the more I'll need to talk to him. So maybe we should have a meeting and I'll do my schedule on how much I need to talk to him and you'll have a meeting on how much you want to make it an issue. And then we can both manage our time a little better.''

Based on those remarks, you can see how defensive he is about people "making the QB switch an issue". Why does it have to be so negative? Nobody made it negative except Saban. People were just expecting Sage to start now because of the SUPERB performance last Sunday. Nobody was pushing for Sage to start. It seemed like his performance spoke for itself. Saban immediately responded in a defensive way. He is the one that called it an "issue". Why is it an "issue"? It is more like a simple "question" that Saban refuses to address.

Should Sage start now because of what he has shown? Saban won't even consider an answer. He says "don't make an issue". Translation = "Don't ask the question." That kind of attitude is not aggressive or with the pulse of the team. It is playing it safe. Playing it safe seems to be the route Saban will take through the rest of the season. After all, it is his first season as a head coach. He may not be ready to be aggressive in the NFL and make big decisions yet. But he is a good coach so I would expect bigger things in the coming years. Either way, Sage or Frerotte, Miami will have to get it done at every position if they want to beat the Chargers. Go Fins!!

I wouldnt read much into it. Its just Saban showing how much he would prefer not to have to talk with the media. He has stated several times that the media has one agenda, to create a non-story. He deesnt want them around and would prefer to limit the access to as much as allowed by NFL rules.

He would be less theatrical in his quotes if he never had to do another press conference and simpy put out his comments in written form.
