No more comparing Saban to Wanny. Please. The AJ Feely trade is pure genius. I was a supporter of AJ and had hoped that he would be our starter and develop into an above average QB. That, obviously, did not happen. Don't say he didn't get a fair shot at it either, that's what pre-season was for. The more I saw of AJ the more I realized that he was not going to be the answer here in Miami. He just did not have the fire to beat out Gus, come on man! In fact he was dropped to the third string position, which was a surprise.
I resigned myself to a season with Gus as our starter. No big deal, I knew he wouldn't surprise us with brilliant play and a strong run at the playoffs. I also knew that he wouldn't throw more TD passes to our opponents than our receivers. Gus is what he is. 'Nuff said.
Now how was the move genius?
We gave up a 7th round pick (and as someone on this board pointed out a 2nd round pick) for Cleo Lemon. By making this move Saban has killed any chance of us having a QB controversy this season, which is great. Nothing is worse than switching QB's mid season. Nick also showed us that he knows we are a work in progress and that no matter your 'value' (ie: 2nd rd pick for AJ) you are expendable and will be gone if you do not perform.
So everybody should just settle down and see what plays out this year. We will win some games, we will lose some games. Our rookies will show us what they've got and hopefully prove to be valuable additions to the team. Our players will (hopefully) get the penalties under control and start to focus more on what the hell they are doing on the field.
"Make haste slowly."
Remember those three words?
Saban will prove himself to be more than competant to be an NFL head coach.:helmet:
