No more comparing Saban to Wanny. Please. The AJ Feely trade is pure genius. I was a supporter of AJ and had hoped that he would be our starter and develop into an above average QB. That, obviously, did not happen. Don't say he didn't get a fair shot at it either, that's what pre-season was for. The more I saw of AJ the more I realized that he was not going to be the answer here in Miami. He just did not have the fire to beat out Gus, come on man! In fact he was dropped to the third string position, which was a surprise.
I resigned myself to a season with Gus as our starter. No big deal, I knew he wouldn't surprise us with brilliant play and a strong run at the playoffs. I also knew that he wouldn't throw more TD passes to our opponents than our receivers. Gus is what he is. 'Nuff said.
Now how was the move genius?
We gave up a 7th round pick (and as someone on this board pointed out a 2nd round pick) for Cleo Lemon. By making this move Saban has killed any chance of us having a QB controversy this season, which is great. Nothing is worse than switching QB's mid season. Nick also showed us that he knows we are a work in progress and that no matter your 'value' (ie: 2nd rd pick for AJ) you are expendable and will be gone if you do not perform.
So everybody should just settle down and see what plays out this year. We will win some games, we will lose some games. Our rookies will show us what they've got and hopefully prove to be valuable additions to the team. Our players will (hopefully) get the penalties under control and start to focus more on what the hell they are doing on the field.
"Make haste slowly."
Remember those three words?
Saban will prove himself to be more than competant to be an NFL head coach.:helmet:

Ya, real genius.. Giving up draft picks for scrub like Lemon... Didnt the old regime do that too?

Furthermore, There will STILL be a QB controversy this year if Gus continues to suck.. You will here LEMON! LEMON! chants as early as this week if Gus continues to sail balls over everyone's head.. A QB Controversy is contingent on the suckinees of the starter.. That hasnt changed with this trade.

i luv saban and have all the trust in him and randy with our beloved phins but i dont like u giving away a pick for a 3rd string qb. of course if lemon becomes our tom brady then all is forgiven ;)

Of course it hasn't, but no-one can honestly expect Lemon to jump in and be a starter. Anyone chanting for Lemon to take over would be foolish. Saban took over a mess of a football team, and to build us back up sacrifices will have to be made. Wait until we end up trading a fan favorite veteran for a day 1 pick (which could very well happen). The fan base will scream bloody murder, but we all have to realize that very often, in business, when a new 'boss' takes over there is a 'cleaning house' project that eliminates associates (players) that have become too comfortable, lazy and complacent with new people that have drive and ambition and want to be sucessful. I don't like the pick either but Saban didn't consult me before the move.

Well...

We're lucky we got a player in the trade, I thought we were getting a towel boy.

it was a 7th round pic FFS skape....get off your gravy train of negativity....realize that saban is focusing on the process right now while some are crying because we are 2-3 saban is only looking at the future...not pining over it

saban isn't gonna second guess himself .....i stand behind his decisions because no one on this board is any more qualified than saban/mueller...let them make the decisions and enjoy the ride.

I also think Saban and Mueller could trade some vetran players in the offseason for draft picks. So I am sure they will be getting more draft picks somehow before next April.

No doubt. We may very well lose a fan favorite like JT or ZT if the return is valuable enough. (I'd rather we dump off Madison, but I ain't the captain of this boat.)

Its the same EXACT philosophy that Spielman used.. That is why I am upset.. What makes it different? That Saban is in charge now? Woopededoo.. I think Saban will be a good coach for us, but I DO question this move.. We got had, just like Spielman got had.. And in future trade negotiations this will be viewed a a weakness and exploited..
In essence, we gave up something like a 4th Rounder for a 3rd string Undrafted QB with ZERO NFL game experience... Spielman makes this trade and everyone hangs him from a tree.. Saban makes it, and it is suddenly genious.. Sorry, but I have trouble comprehending that train of thought.

4th? I thought it was a 6th?

BTW, AJ more than likely would have gotten cut. Would that scenario have made you feel better?
A 6th round draft choice isn't considered that high.

we gave a 2nd for feeley and signed him to a somewhat lucrative contract right?

saban comes in....he doesn't give a damn what mistakes spielman made he is objectively reviewing the talent on the team. he see's that feeley sucks *** and makes the right decision by bumping him down to 3rd string. sending a messge that regardless of what the prior regime has done he isn't gonna let that affect his decisions for the future.

he would be an idiot to do so.

SO we swap third stringers and unfortunately due to AJ showing the world how absolutely pitiful he was we had to pad the deal. i love the move because saban has removed the final blemish of an old regime...one that represents how stupid our front office was. a 2nd rounder is gold..a 7th isnt

you cant look at it as "oh we gave up a 2nd and a 7th for LEMON...because it doesn't work like that....AJ isn't worth **** anymore....spielman got ripped off and guess what?? no one feels sorry for us!...no one is ognna say "ohh poor phins...they gave up a 2nd for him, lets give them a 3rd for feeley because we feeley sorry for them"

NO aj isn't worth jack **** and maybe there are other factors involved like maybe he was bitching like a little girl about be demoted to 3rd string...maybe this move tells all the ignorant fans who think feeley is worth a **** to shutup..im not sure

i think some people are so used to being negative on this team that they don't know how to act....its a little crazy imo
